Website builders allow everyday people to create their own website without any coding knowledge. But how easy to use are they really?
Well, firstly, website builders work in two very different ways. The classic way is to pick from a selection of templates, then add in your own content and edit the layout to your liking.
This is generally all quite easy, but some platforms have made an even easier solution: Artificial Intelligence (AI).
It may sound complicated, but trust us: AI website builders are the easiest way to design your website.
What is an AI Website Builder?
AI website builders work by asking you a few questions about the type of website you’re looking to build. These usually cover things like the purpose of the site, you or your company’s name, and your design preferences.
From there, your website builder will literally create a website for you. Incredible, right?
You can still make tweaks to your site’s layout afterwards, but if you’re more concerned with sheer ease and speed, AI website builders are your best bet.
We can guess the next question on your lips: Which website builders have AI? And, more importantly, which is the easiest website builder to use?
Luckily, we’ve got the answer. Website Builder Expert is committed to providing you with accurate and thorough reviews. We’ve conducted hundreds of hours of research, testing countless website builders to find out their strengths and weaknesses – and to find out which are the very best.
From our research, we’ve put together this list of the best AI platforms. Read on as we review each one, and explain just how easy each is to use.
As we’ve mentioned, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) website builder works by asking you a series of questions. It will then use your answers to build you a website. It’s a great option for anyone short on money, time, or computer skills.
It’s also an excellent choice if you have an existing website – or a social media presence – and fancy a bit of a change. AI website builders can pull together information that’s already online, then insert it into your new look website – talk about efficient!
The four easiest website builders to use are Wix ADI, GoDaddy, Jimdo Dolphin and SITE123. Wix and Jimdo are your classic website builders, but they also offer AI (hence the ADI and Dolphin tags). GoDaddy and SITE123 are purpose-built AI website builders.
Wix ADI is the best of the bunch. This is largely down to two things: how in-depth the set-up process is, and how easy it is to edit your website after it’s been built.
GoDaddy and SITE123 are also good options. The main focus with these website builders is speed: you can get your website live in a flash, though you will sacrifice some creative control in the process.
Jimdo Dolphin sits somewhere in between. Its main strength is pulling information from elsewhere online: if you already have a website, or plenty of social media content, using Jimdo Dolphin is a great way to go.
Are there any free AI website builders?
Wix ADI, Jimdo Dolphin and SITE123 all offer totally free plans. You can create your website and publish it online without spending a dime. What you’ll end up with, though, is an unprofessional sub domain (e.g. ‘www.websitebuilderexpert.wix.com’) and some unsightly adverts.
|Wix ADI Pros||Wix ADI Cons|
Best All-Around Website Builder
When it comes to website builders, there are none better than Wix. Wix ADI provides a thorough experience in website building that makes you feel like you’re in safe hands, right from the word go.
You start by telling Wix ADI what your website is for. Straight away, Wix ADI hones in on exactly what you need.
For example, when we said we wanted to create a website for a cleaning service, it asked us whether this was for house cleaning, office cleaning, carpet cleaning, and so on.
You’re then presented with a list of features you may want for your website, such as the ability to sell online, take bookings or appointments, or host a blog.
From there, you can add a company name, link any existing online content including social media accounts, and choose a design that matches your business brand or personal preferences.
Editing your site is easy as well. You can add your own images and text in a flash – if Wix hasn’t already done so from your social media – and even embed extra features.
For a deeper level of control, though, you’ll have to switch to Wix’s main editor. This uses drag-and-drop (similar to PowerPoint) and allows you to move things around the page and position them wherever you like.
Wix ADI Pricing
Wix ADI uses the same pricing plans as Wix. There are seven premium plans, plus the free option. Its premium plans range from $5/month to $35/month depending on what you need.
The most popular is Wix’s Unlimited plan. This, unsurprisingly, includes unlimited bandwidth, 100GB of storage, and your own custom domain free for the first year. The Unlimited plan is priced at $14/month, and is ideal for small businesses or individuals looking for an online presence.
|GoDaddy Pros||GoDaddy Cons|
Fastest Website Builder To Use
GoDaddy focuses on pure speed and simplicity. The set-up process is a lot shorter than Wix’s; this is great if you just need a website live ASAP, but by cutting corners, you do get a more basic final design.
Similar to Wix, you’ll enter the reason for your website, and what you want it to be called.
After just two questions, GoDaddy will immediately show you the design of your website. You can change the layout through any of its 17 themes, and add specific features such as a booking system or blog.
You can also edit images and text freely, making GoDaddy ideal for little tweaks – but in reality, there’s only so much you can change. That said, people don’t use AI website builders for limitless control, so GoDaddy fits the bill perfectly.
GoDaddy may not have its own free plan, but it does offer a 14-day free trial. This means you can spend two weeks designing your own site before deciding whether you want to invest in it.
If you do invest, GoDaddy has four premium plans, ranging from $5.99/month to $19.99/month. Each are appropriately named, so you’ll know which one suits you: Personal, Business, Business Plus, or Online Store.
Unless you’re a big business, or looking for ecommerce functionality, the Business plan – priced at $9.99/month – should have everything you need to get going.
|Jimdo Dolphin Pros||Jimdo Dolphin Cons|
Great For Existing Websites
Jimdo Dolphin’s recent facelift makes it a great option when looking to build a website. You start off by stating whether your site is for business or personal use.
You then enter the name of your site; Jimdo Dolphin will then search around for anything that currently exists online under that name, before asking if you’d like to use information from it. This makes Jimdo Dolphin perfect if you’re looking to redesign your current website, or have a strong presence on social media you’d like to integrate.
Once Jimdo knows the purpose of your site and whether there’s anything already online, you get into the design stage. Pick from a variety of choices, then decide on a color scheme.
Jimdo Dolphin’s editor works in sections. You can edit the content of each block individually, and even add in new blocks that contain different features.
Jimdo Dolphin Pricing
Unlike Wix, Jimdo Dolphin is separate from Jimdo’s main editor ‘Creator’, meaning its pricing is different. Jimdo Dolphin has a free plan and three premium plans, which cost between $9/month and $39/month.
Jimdo’s best seller is its Start plan, priced at $9/month. This gets you your own custom domain, premium help and support, and 5GB of storage.
|SITE123 Pros||SITE123 Cons|
Best For Those Who Need A Helping Hand
SITE123 is most comparable to GoDaddy. It’s a purpose-built AI website builder that offers a quick, user-friendly solution.
SITE123 has its own brief set-up, where you’ll be asked about the type of website you’re after and the name of your site. After that, the building commences!
The lack of time and detail involved in its set-up does mean that SITE123 may churn out a website which is some way off what you initially had in mind.
That said, the editor is pretty comprehensive for an AI platform, and the live chat support available is second to none. If you’re looking to use an AI website builder, but want more control over the final look of your site, SITE123 is the product for you.
Like Wix ADI and Jimdo Dolphin, SITE123 has its own free plan. Alongside this, it offers four premium plans that range from $10.80/month to $28.80/month.
If you need a personal site – such as a blog or online résumé – you’ll want the Basic plan for $10.80/month. Small businesses will find the Advanced plan ($16.80/month) the most beneficial, while larger businesses or online stores will want either of the top-tiered plans.
AI website builders are the easiest to use, but that’s not to say classic website builders aren’t extremely simple to work with too.
Platforms like Squarespace and Weebly may not offer AI, but neither require coding knowledge, and both give you far more creative control.
Squarespace is known for its design. With its stylish templates, smooth interface and detailed editor, the platform lends itself perfectly to those in creative industries such as photography, art and design.
Weebly is best for small businesses. It’s done a lot of work on its ecommerce options too, and offers a whole host of features that are perfect for any budding entrepreneur.
AI website builders tend to be for those who are short on time and don’t want to spend a few hours designing their own site. Think of them like a super cheap web developer – you pay a small monthly fee, and in return get your own custom website with your hosting and domain included.
For this reason, choosing Wix ADI is a no-brainer. You get the AI platform, and can switch to Wix’s classic editor for more advanced control. Your website is designed instantly, but can be customized in any way you like thereafter.
In summary, Artificial Intelligence (AI) website builders are for those who are short on time and need a website live ASAP. There are some fantastic AI options out there, but which to go for depends on the level of control you’re after.
Jimdo Dolphin should really be used by those looking to transfer what they already have online onto another website. It can pull any information off existing websites and social media, then apply it to your new platform.
The undisputed champion of AI, however, has to be Wix ADI. Its detailed onboarding leaves you in no doubt that you’re getting a professional website tailored specifically to you. Not only that, it also merges with Wix’s main editor, meaning you have full creative control over your site if you want to customize anything.
Wix ADI, Jimdo Dolphin and SITE123 all have free plans, while GoDaddy offers a 14-day free trial. We wouldn’t recommend using the free plans permanently due to the tacky advertising they come with, but they are a brilliant way to test out a platform before investing your hard-earned cash.
So, if you’re looking for a fast and cheap way to create the website of your dreams, why not try an AI website builder? You’ll be amazed at just how easy they are to use!
Which website builders are the cheapest to use?
Plenty of website builders have completely free plans, but they come with tacky adverts on them. Jimdo has the cheapest average cost of any website builder’s premium plans, while Weebly’s cheapest premium plan, ‘Connect’, is another great option at just $5/month.
How long does it take to build a website on an AI website builder?
If you’re happy with the design your AI website builder puts together for you and don’t want to change anything, you can get a site live in two to five minutes. More realistically though, with editing, it’ll probably take you a couple of hours before you’re ready to go live.
Are AI website builders suitable for ecommerce?
If you only need to sell the odd product, AI website builders are fine. If you want a fully-fledged online store though, it’s worth exploring other options. Shopify and BigCommerce are two website builders specifically designed for ecommerce, and can help you build a powerful online store.
Do you have to pay for your domain and hosting separately?
No! With website builders, everything is included in the monthly cost. Simply sign-up to a premium plan and register your domain name. Once you publish your website, edits, support, and hosting are all included in your plan’s package. It’s the perfect all-in-one solution.
