The June 2025 algorithm update ended today at 01:18PDT, Google reports. The update began on June 30 and took 16 days to complete, proving slightly slightly under the three week prediction.

I’ll share everything we know about the impact on website owners so far, and explain what you can do in the aftermath.

Impact of The Core Update

Google Search Console reported that the update was “designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites.”

Although the full results of the update won’t show for at least another week, website owners and SEO experts have already begun to experience SERP instability. This noticeably spiked on July 10, and has yet to regulate itself.

The SEO community has also started commenting on the early results of the update. Via LinkedIn, Glenn Gabe commented:

“A number of sites heavily impacted by the September 2023 HCU(X) started surging back. It was great to see. And as of today, those surges have remained. […] But… not all sites surged. Some HCU(X) sites that were down dropped *even more* with this update.”

SERP volatility tends to continue for a short period of time after a core update rolls out, so this will be interesting to monitor over the next few weeks. Below are screenshots of the current search experience from reliable SERP volatility trackers:

What To Do Now

With the algorithm update wrapped up, it’s crucial to keep up to date on your site’s performance so that you know which pages, if any, are affected. I recommend tracking your Google Search Console and Google Analytics traffic daily.

If you are hit negatively, it’s important not to make impulsive changes to your website pages. While this can be tempting, traffic drops don’t necessarily mean you’re doing something wrong. Instead, I recommend:

  • Waiting at least one week to let the SERP stabilize before making decisions from your tracking
  • Making regular updates to keep your pages fresh
  • Continuing to publish helpful content that demonstrates E-E-A-T

With AI and spam content being published more and more frequently, personal, first-hand expertise and unique imagery is as valuable to searchers as ever. As always, prioritize your site visitors first and stick to SEO best practices, rather than writing solely for Google and AI Overviews.
