There are tons of providers you could choose from, but how do you know which ones are truly the best of the best?

That’s where we come in, after rigorous research and testing, our experts have found the top three Magento hosting providers, each excelling in their own areas.

3 Best Magento Hosting Providers

  1. HostGator Best all-round Magento hosting.
  2. InMotion Best for scalability.
  3. Hostinger Best for cloud hosting.

1. HostGator

5 out of 5 stars

Best all-around Magento hosting.

Rating: 4.7/5

HostGator Pros and Cons

HostGator Pros HostGator Cons
Great uptime guarantee of 99.99%! Magento-specific knowledge from help and support could be improved.
All plans are packed full of features – some of the best packages on the market. The control panel is a little clunky and needs updating.
String security features plus additional add-ons.

✔️ Who is HostGator For? Smaller ecommerce businesses and those looking to launch a Magento store on a budget.

Plans and Pricing

HostGator is one of the cheapest Magento hosting providers on the market. The provider offers Magento hosting as part of its shared plans that start at $2.75 per month when you commit to 12 months.

When it comes to ecommerce stores, however, most will benefit from opting for a VPS hosting plan instead. HostGator has three VPS plans on offer for users:

  • Snappy 2000: $36.99 per month
  • Snappy 4000: $53.99 per month
  • Snappy 8000: $95.99 per month

All prices are based on signing up for 12 months.

The Snappy 4000 is the best choice if you have plans to scale in the future, offering 4GB RAM, 2 Core CPU, 165GB SSD, and unmetered bandwidth, while the Snappy 2000 plan offers 120GB SSD.

Check out our HostGator pricing guide for a more in-depth look at HostGator’s plans.

Remember! These are introductory offers and when you renew your plan, the prices will rise. The Snappy 4000 for example will rise to $121.99 per month. Don’t be put off by this, it’s an industry standard pricing strategy and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a provider that doesn’t raise its rates at renewal.

Magento Compatibility

HostGator offers Magento hosting across all its plans, including shared and cloud, through version 2.0. Magento hosting on VPS and dedicated plans meanwhile is available through version 2.1.

HostGator is a great Magento choice and should you get stuck or need more information, there are over three pages of Magento-based resources available in the on-site Knowledge Base.

There’s also 24/7 live chat support (phone support isn’t available on the most basic shared hosting plans) but all VPS plans will receive access to Premium support. It is worth noting however that HostGator outsources its support agents and sometimes their Magento knowledge is patchy at best.

When it comes to security HostGator offers free SSL certificates and VPS plans also include a free IP table firewall, centralized DDoS protection, and a secured VPS firewall to keep your online store safe from cyber attacks.

There’s also the SiteLock security add-on, which you can purchase for $1.99 per month, that scans your site for harmful code and responds accordingly.

Performance

Magento is a resource-heavy application and HostGator boosts page speed by using Varnish cache.

All HostGator VPS plans also come with unmetered bandwidth, meaning your online store should, in theory, be able to handle a boost in traffic at peak times.

The storage on offer on the Snappy 4000 plan and above should be more than enough to support Magento. Smaller businesses may also cope just fine with a shared plan, however your scaling options will be more limited here.

When it comes to uptime, HostGator offers a promise of 99.99% uptime, meaning your online store should be guaranteed to be online almost all the time, ensuring you don’t miss out on those all-important sales.

2. InMotion

4.5 out of 5 stars

Best for scalability.

Rating: 4.5/5

InMotion Pros and Cons

InMotion Pros InMotion Cons
Unrivaled performance for online stores with plans packed full of storage and bandwidth. One of the more expensive Magento hosting providers on the market.
Magento auto-install is available (at an extra cost). InMotion doesn’t offer Windows servers, unlike some providers.
Max Speed Zones for optimized website speed.

✔️ Who is InMotion For? Tech-savvy online store owners looking to grow their business.

Plans and Pricing

InMotion offers Magento hosting across its four VPS plans. The most basic VPS plan, VPS 4GB RAM, costs $14.99 per month for 12 months.

You’ll get 4GB RAM and 90GB of storage space on the most basic plan, and depending on how much you need and want to spend, this can rise to as much as 16GB RAM and 360GB NVMe SSD on the most expensive plan. (The most expensive plan will set you back $44.99 per month).

Like HostGator, InMotion’s VPS plans increase in price once you renew and aren’t cheap. The most basic option will rise to $44.99 per month and the most expensive will set you back $111.99 per month after renewal.

Magento Compatibility

You can manually install Magento for free with InMotion, or you can download the Softaculous tool that will auto-install it for you for $5 per month.

InMotion’s support staff are highly trained, especially when it comes to Magento. Compared to HostGator who outsource some of its support agents, this is a major plus.

There are free SSL certificates on offer on every VPS plan, plus Secure Shell access and HotLink Protection which work to prevent other users from stealing your website’s traffic.

All three of InMotion’s VPS plans include automated data backups, ensuring you can easily get your store back online should the worst happen.

Performance

IMotion is one of the best-performing hosting providers on the market, including for Magento hosting.

All of InMotion’s VPS plans offer “Max Speed Zones” or the ability to choose for yourself which of its multiple data centers you want to house your website at.

Not only are the InMotion servers resilient, but you’ll also get to choose between cPanel or Control Web Panel for your control panel, depending on your skill level and requirements.

InMotion servers are optimized for Magento and the provider promises an uptime of 99.9% – respectable and, when we tested it out, realistic.

The vast array of advanced features on offer on InMotion makes it one of the best Magento hosting providers on the market but also one of the most complicated. It’s great for tech-savvy business owners who want the capacity to scale at speed but may prove too complicated for beginners.

3. Hostinger

4 out of 5 stars

Best for cloud hosting.

Rating 3.6/5

Hostinger Pros and Cons

Hostinger Pros Hostinger Cons
Affordable hosting plans that support Magento. No phone support, you only have access to live chat.
Huge storage is available on cloud hosting plans. Very few Magento-specific resources on the Knowledge Base.
International data centers to optimize site speed.

✔️ Who is Hostinger for? Business owners who need a large amount of storage for things such as large inventories, hosting product videos, or even 3D product views.

Plans and Pricing

Hostinger offers Magento hosting via its cloud hosting plans. There are three cloud hosting plans available:

  • Cloud Startup: $9.99 per month.
  • Cloud Professional: $14.99 per month.
  • Cloud Enterprise: $29.99 per month.

Prices are based on signing up for 12 months.

The three plans offer varying amounts of storage, which you choose will depend on your needs (don’t forget to consider your future scaling plans too).

The Cloud Startup plan offers 200GB NVMe storage, 3GB RAM, and 2 CPU cores, while the most expensive Cloud Enterprise plan offers 300GB NVMe storage and a whopping 12GB RAM. The fact that even the cheapest cloud plan has great storage means it’s suitable for even larger businesses and it’s unlikely you’ll need anything more for your online store.

These Hostinger prices are, you guessed it, introductory offers and will rise once it comes to renewal. The most basic Cloud Startup plan will rise to $24.99 per month after renewal, the cheapest basic plan renewal rate of any of the providers in this list.

Magento Compatibility

Hostinger’s Magento plans offer the latest MySQL updates plus a multi-tier Litespeed cache layer, helping your online store to support as many visitors as possible – beneficial for busy periods such as during sales or seasonal shopping months.

Hostinger’s customer support is a little limited, there is only live chat available with no phone support access for any users, not even those on the most expensive plans.

The on-site Knowledge Base was also a huge letdown, when we searched for Magento-specific resources we were presented with just two. How disappointing.

There are free SSL certificates available on all Hostinger plans, plus Cloudflare-protected nameservers, ensuring your website and your customers remain safe online.

For bigger ecommerce stores, however, you’ll need to invest in the Comodo PositiveSSL certificate for an additional fee (approx. $7.95 per year) in order to boost your store’s ecommerce security and give it the protection it needs.

Performance

Hostinger continuously performs well in our research for site speed and it’s a particularly good choice for those who want to target an international audience.

This is thanks to the provider’s various data centers located around the world including in America, the UK, India, Singapore, and Brazil.

In fact, HostGator is the only Magento hosting provider in this list to have data centers located outside of the US!

Frequently Asked Questions

Many of the providers we discussed offer Magento hosting on their shared plans – and if your site doesn’t get a huge amount of traffic, then a shared plan will be fine! However, we recommend VPS plans for medium-to-large sized stores, because they offer stronger bandwidth and security.

Magento is an open-source platform that is written in the PHP scripting language. A larger number of providers offer PHP hosting since Magento hosting is more specific.
