In 2016, LinkedIn unveiled clickable hashtags, helping users boost the visibility of their posts and increase brand awareness on the platform. But are they still effective in 2025?

Over the years, I’ve noticed a significant decline in the use of hashtags on LinkedIn, with many users opting for different strategies to make their posts more discoverable. So, it’s well worth questioning whether LinkedIn hashtags are still relevant in 2025 and I’ll reveal the answer below!

Should My Business Still Use LinkedIn Hashtags?

You can still use LinkedIn hashtags, though they’re not as important as they used to be. In the past, you had to use hashtags to boost post visibility, but the tides have turned. For one, LinkedIn removed the ability to follow hashtags and see related posts in 2024, while it also removed hashtags from user profiles and replaced them with relevant keywords instead.

There’s a much bigger focus on social media SEO in 2025. In fact, using the right keywords and creating high-quality content is a much better way to get your profile and your content seen on LinkedIn. For best results, treat LinkedIn like a search engine and make sure you’re creating discoverable content that truly helps its users.

However, that doesn’t mean that hashtags are completely useless. They’re still a useful way to categorize your content and help users find industry-specific posts. But above all, your primary focus should be on SEO.

💡 Top Tip!

To grow your business on social media, make sure that you’re engaging with other users as much as you can. This is especially important for LinkedIn, since having a strong network is key if you want to increase post interactions.

Don’t be afraid to reach out to other industry professionals, reply to comments, share great content from other creators, and engage in discussions if you have something useful to share.

Best Practices for Using LinkedIn Hashtags

Still want to use a few LinkedIn hashtags? Make sure that you’re following these best practices for optimal results:

  1. Don’t overload hashtags: Aim to use two or three relevant hashtags per post. This keeps your content highly targeted and helps other users find it when they’re searching for posts on LinkedIn. Using too many at once will come across as spammy and put off readers.
  2. Place hashtags at the end of your posts: To keep your LinkedIn posts readable and clear, I recommend placing hashtags at the end of them.
  3. Use branded hashtags for campaigns: If you’re running a campaign on LinkedIn, it’s worth including branded hashtags in posts related to your campaign. For example, if you want to encourage your network to post their own user-generated content to LinkedIn.
  4. Test your hashtags: You should use A/B testing to see whether hashtags are having an impact on your post performance or not. Publish posts with and without hashtags and compare your engagement metrics.

Hashtags on LinkedIn: Final Thoughts

Though there’s less need for hashtags on LinkedIn than ever before, they’re not completely dead – not yet, anyway. If you want to categorize your content through industry-specific hashtags or track your branded campaigns, you can still use them if needed.

However, if boosting post visibility and engagement is your chief goal, you need to focus on creating LinkedIn content that’s SEO-friendly, sharable, and high-quality instead.
