After periodic volatility since Google’s last algorithm update in March, the search engine has announced the start of the June 2025 core update. With any core update, the focus will be on Google’s rankings to ensure high-quality content appears in the SERPs. The rollout is expected to take three weeks, instead of the usual two.
This will be the second core update of the year, with the March core update starting on March 13 and ending on March 27.
June Core Update
Google announced the June core update today at 07:34 PDT, sharing an official statement on LinkedIn:
“Today we released the June 2025 core update to Google Search.
This is a regular update designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites.
We’ll update our ranking release history page when the rollout is complete.”
Google core updates happen regularly throughout the year, and the June core update will be the second update of 2025. But, with the rollout of Google’s AI Mode and evidence showing that AI Overviews are hurting click-through rates for websites, it’ll be interesting to see the outcome of this algorithm shift.

What can your business do?
Don’t panic! While Google core updates can be unpredictable, you don’t want to make any radical decisions during this time. Continue to publish genuinely helpful and valuable content for real readers, as long as it’s relevant to your brand and audience. Your website should be serving them, not Google’s algorithm. While the rollout could last three weeks, previous core updates have finished sooner or taken longer than expected.
I’ll update our newsfeed as soon as we get an update from Google on its completion and impact.
