Last year, I covered the impressive YouTube features unveiled at YouTube’s annual product event, Made on YouTube. This year’s event was just as exciting, sharing new AI-powered features to support Shorts creation.

Below, I’ll go over YouTube’s latest content creation and editing tools, why they’re useful for businesses, and when you can expect them to be rolled out.

New AI Shorts Creation Tools

One of the most exciting updates YouTube introduced was its partnership with Google DeepMind, which will bring Google’s Veo 3 video generation model into YouTube Shorts.

We’ve been able to create AI video clips in Shorts since YouTube rolled out Veo 2 for Shorts back in February. The improved model has a lower video latency (the delay between video and audio) and is now capable of creating accompanying sound.

The tool is rolling out now across the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and will be accessible for free.

What Else Is Planned?

On top of this, YouTube spoke of ambitious near-future plans for Veo 3 in Shorts. In the coming months, you’ll be able to add motion, stylistic preferences, and objects into your videos with a text prompt. Plus, the new Speech to Song remixing tool means you can turn dialogue into musical soundtracks in an array of styles, such as chill, fun, and danceable.

For businesses with a limited video production budget, these tools open new opportunities for creative product promotion. Placing your hiking boots on top of a mountain, for instance, is sure to turn heads, even if it’s AI generated!

AI-Powered Editing

Content creation tools weren’t the only update announced at Made on YouTube. YouTube is also bringing out tools to streamline the editing process:

  • Edit with AI: Available in the coming weeks, this will turn raw camera footage into a polished first draft, by clipping best bits and adding effects, music, and transitions.
  • AI-powered highlights: These will automatically clip the best bits from YouTube lives and turn them into Shorts to repost on your channel.

Editing a video can be just as time-consuming as the initial filming, and it’s often daunting knowing where to start. Of course, any content produced by AI will need manual checks and amendments before publishing, but these tools will give you a solid first draft to get started with.

Improving Your YouTube Output

YouTube’s Algorithm rewards consistent posting. However, this is easier said than done, especially on top of the countless tasks that come with managing a business.

While I wouldn’t recommend relying on AI fully, using YouTube’s new tools for some of the heavy lifting – particularly with adding effects such as voiceovers and repurposing lives into Shorts – will help you add regular YouTube videos into your social media strategy.
