You can use it alongside PayPal to offer more choice to customers, and it’s available in 14 countries (including the US). The processing fee for credit and debit cards is 2.9% of the transaction, plus $0.30.
Launched in 2019, Wix Payments has proved a popular solution, with eight out of 10 new Wix users now reportedly using it as their payment processor – but is it right for you? We’ll help you decide in this review. Let’s start off with Wix Payments’ pros and cons!

Wix Payments is Wix’s own payment provider, allowing you to accept payments through your Wix website. It’s like choosing PayPal or Stripe to process payments, but with Wix Payments everything is kept in one place instead of outsourcing to third party platforms.
Wix Payments is now one of the main payment options available when setting up payments through your Wix website:
- Wix Payments – accept credit and debit cards directly through Wix
- PayPal – accept payments from customers using PayPal
- Manual payments – accept cash, cheques, or other offline payments
- Square card reader – accept credit card payments on the go using the Wix Mobile app

Processing Fees: 2.9% + $0.30
Wix Payments is free to use, and charges no transaction fees. In fact, Wix doesn’t charge transaction fees on any of its payment methods. This sets Wix apart from other builders such as Shopify, which charges fees unless you use its in-house payment processor Shopify Payments.
However, all payment providers charge a processing fee as standard, and Wix Payments is no different.
To accept credit and debit card payments, Wix Payments charges a processing fee of 2.9% of the transaction amount, plus $0.30. This is charged for every payment you receive through Wix Payments.
Wix’s processing fees are pretty standard – both PayPal and Stripe charge the same 2.9% + $0.30 fee as their basic rate. While some payment processors vary their rates depending on the size of your business, or the credit cards being processed, Wix Payments always charges 2.9% + $0.30 for everyone.
Setup Fees: None
Wix Payments doesn’t come with any setup fees, but you do need to be on one of Wix’s business plans to use it and accept payments through your site.
Refunds and Chargebacks: No Fees
Wix Payments doesn’t charge you to process refunds or chargebacks on your account, meaning the only money leaving your account is the amount returning to the customer. This is a great perk, as other payment processors issue a fee each time a customer requests a chargeback:

A chargeback happens when a customer doesn’t recognize the transaction, or when the product was not as expected or never arrived. Unlike normal refunds, chargebacks involve the customer’s bank or payment network, which issue an immediate refund.
You’ll know if a customer has been refunded their transaction by their credit card company, as the transaction will be labeled as Chargeback in your Wix Payments dashboard. You can either accept this decision, or dispute it if you can prove the transaction was valid.
Although there are no fees for chargebacks when using Wix Payments, if you’re receiving too many chargeback demands, this could eventually result in closing your account. Most businesses process less than one chargeback per 100 transactions.
Wix Payments lets you accept payments from major credit cards:
If you’re selling outside the US, Wix Payments has a few extras for you. Merchants in Austria, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland can accept payments via Pay Now by Klarna. If you’re in the Netherlands you can use iDeal, and merchants in Germany can accept payments via Giropay. US dollars is not a supported currency for any of these payment methods.
Combining Wix Payments With Other Payments Providers
Using Wix Payments can be a successful way of giving customers more choice at checkout. The payment providers you can offer alongside Wix Payments varies from country to country. US merchants can offer a combination of the following payment methods:

This highlights a big benefit of Wix Payments, which is that it allows customers more freedom at checkout to choose a payment method they feel most familiar with.
Wix Payments is convenient for Wix users and helps you manage all your transactions in one place. But is it good enough to switch from the payment processor you’re used to using?

As you can see, the main benefit to Wix Payments is that it keeps customers on your site for checkout, rather than directing them to a third-party page. This can create a more frictionless and on-brand customer journey.
However, a lot of customers feel safer and happier using a payment processor they trust, such as PayPal. Our advice is to offer both Wix Payments and PayPal, to cover all bases. Unfortunately, it seems Wix doesn’t support Stripe alongside Wix Payments.
Anyone with a Wix business plan can use Wix Payments, as long as you’re in a supported country, and your business isn’t on Wix’s restricted list (we’ll go into more detail on that in a second).

Valid Business Products and Services
Wix has a list of restricted products and services that cannot be sold through Wix Payments. These outright banned businesses include, but are not limited, to:
- Activities involving weapons
- Adult entertainment
- Animal and wildlife products
And that’s just the A’s – there’s around 53 prohibited products and services in total.
There’s a whole other, thankfully smaller list for businesses that may use Wix Payments, but need explicit written permission to do so. This list includes ticket agencies, charities, and car sales.

It’s worth noting that Wix Payments is not alone in restricting the types of businesses allowed to use its services. Both PayPal and Stripe also have lists of prohibited services and activities, including similar topics such as gambling, adult content, and weapons.
If you’re starting from scratch, you’ll need to start by creating a Wix business site. You can set up payments for your site on the free plan, but to actually accept payments you’ll need one of Wix’s premium business plans.
If you already have a Wix site, head to your Wix dashboard and click “Accept Payments” from the left-hand menu. Then click “Add Payment Methods” and select the payment methods you want to make available on your website.
You’ll then need to finish setting up Wix Payments by clicking “Complete Setup” – this takes you directly to your dedicated Wix Payments dashboard, where you’ll find steps to follow to launch Wix Payments on your site.
The key thing is to finish entering your account details, such as your business type, personal information such as name and address, and bank account details so that you can receive your payments!
Once you’ve submitted all your details, you will then have to wait to be approved by Wix to actually start using Wix Payments on your website.
We recommend Wix Payments for sellers wanting an all-in-one, convenient way to manage their online transactions. It’s ideal for businesses who already have loyal customers who know and trust you – otherwise, you could miss out on sales from people who prefer using familiar payment processors.

Wix Payments is a worthy addition to your checkout. It holds its own next to PayPal and Stripe in terms of reasonable, transparent processing fees and its lack of chargeback fees. It’s not quite as versatile as other, more established payment processors – its small range of countries and currencies rather lets it down.
We recommend Wix Payments for sellers looking for an easy, convenient, and affordable payment processor. Its biggest draw is that you can manage all your transactions from one central dashboard, putting ease and convenience at the forefront.
We would argue that Wix Payments is best used alongside PayPal.
While Wix Payments provides a more frictionless checkout for customers by allowing them to pay directly on-site, it’s also less familiar. Customers may still prefer to have a recognizable option such as PayPal that they know and trust.
One of our favorite things about Wix Payments is the fact you can use it alongside other payment methods – make the most of this flexibility, and be sure to give customers both options.
You can choose your preferred payout cycle so that payouts are sent daily, weekly, or monthly depending on your individual needs. Weekly payouts are sent every Monday, and monthly payouts are sent on the first day of every month.
Remember to allow three to five business days for funds to land in your account.
Wix Payments is fully PCI DSS compliant, which is the highest information security standard for companies accepting credit card payments.
It’s also PSD2 SCA compliant, which is important for European merchants. HTTPS and TLS data encryption ensure a secure checkout, and Wix’s AI risk system helps to avoid common fraud attacks.
There’s a whole list of restricted and prohibited products and services that aren’t allowed to use Wix Payments. Examples of such businesses include:

Yes! Wix Payments lets you charge one-off payments as well as recurring payments such as subscriptions, memberships, and packages.
No – at least not yet! Although Wix Payments supports five different currencies, you have to choose one for your store. You can’t sell in multiple currencies at once, which makes life difficult for multilanguage stores.
The currency of your Wix store is based on your bank account’s location (for individual accounts), or the country of your business’ registration (for business accounts). So if your business is registered in the US, for example, then you can only sell in USD.
