On April 23, after four months of testing, ads in Threads were rolled out globally. In an update to a January post, Meta announced the new ad placement will be available for those advertising on Facebook and Instagram, and “Inventory filter” controls will also be applicable. This additional advertising platform has the potential to expand the reach and visibility of businesses. But how do you go about running ads on Threads, and are they worthwhile? Run Threads Ads Meta explains that Threads ads will work as an extension of Meta ad campaigns, which previously appeared on just Instagram and Facebook. For those initially selected, this change will be enabled automatically on any new ad campaigns using either Advantage+ or Manual placements. However, you’re able to opt out by following these steps:Head to Meta Ads ManagerSelect your chosen Ad SetScroll down to “Placements”Select “Manual Placement” and deselect ThreadsMeta shared this example of how Threads ads will appear. Source: MetaWhile you won’t be able to create a full Threads campaign, additional “Inventory Filter” controls are also available for Threads ads. These are already used on Instagram and Facebook, and give control over the types of content your ads will appear between, based on sensitivity. There are three inventory filter levels: Expanded, Moderate, and Limited. There are three inventory filter settings to choose from. Source: Website Builder ExpertDuring the early stages of Threads ads, the placement is available to “eligible advertisers globally” and will be shown in a select global market. Meta has said this will be expanding continually, so if you’re not already seeing it as an option, you should expect to soon. Are Threads Ads Worth Using? Threads is becoming increasingly popular. But with plenty of social media advertising options available, what makes it a good option?Extended reach: Threads has 100 million daily active users and is continuing to soar in popularity. The additional ad placement will place your products and services in front of an entire new audience and spike your visibility.Time-saving: Meta advertisers won’t have to spend time creating new resources or configuring campaign settings as they would elsewhere. If you have a campaign running already, you can simply tick a box to apply it to Threads.Accurate targeting: For those advertising on Instagram and Facebook already, Threads ads will follow your existing campaign settings, including the targeting that best works for you.So, yes, Threads ads are worth using, but I don’t recommend relying solely on them for your social media advertising. While Threads is popular at the moment, it’s important to remember that, with only 320 million monthly active users, it isn’t big enough to make a huge impact. But considering how simple it is to enable, it’s worth testing alongside your Meta campaigns.
