You can set up a link-in-bio to display and share important links with your online audience from a central location. But, there are a few ways to go about this – for example, Linktree is a popular free solution. However, one of our top-rated website builders, Squarespace, has a built-in feature: Bio Sites.

This lets you create a one-page mini website, where you can easily link to your relevant platforms and pages, without needing to subscribe to Squarespace’s website builder. I’ll walk you through how to build a link-in-bio site with Squarespace below.

Setting Up Your Bio Site

To get started, you need to visit Squarespace’s Bio Sites page and click “Create a free Bio Site”. The feature is available for iOS and Android users, but you can build your one-page site from a desktop (which is what I did). After you get started, Squarespace will take you through the following six steps:

  1. Claim your free username – this will look like “bio.site/[YOUR USERNAME]”, but you can upgrade to get a custom domain name through Squarespace (from $14 per year)
  2. Create your account with Squarespace – your details can be used to log into Bio Sites and Squarespace (it’s quickest to use existing Google, Apple, or Facebook account info, but you can sign up manually with an email address)
  3. Pick a template – I could browse 14 options in varying styles, so you can pick one that best fits your personal or business needs

  1. Customize your Bio Site – after choosing a template, I was first asked to add my name and image to the profile to personalize it
  2. Add links to your social media accounts – I could add up to eight links to my Bio Site, with the default starting options set to Instagram, TikTok, and X
  3. Add links to other relevant content – in addition to social media platforms, I could also use my Bio Site to direct visitors to other important pages, such as a website, a store page, or a list of services

After I completed these steps, my Bio Site was pushed live automatically. Of course, no one can see the page unless I share it, so I could still make edits and tweaks, which I’ll discuss in the next section.

What social links can I add to my Bio Site?

You can add up to eight social media links on your Bio Site. The initial setup process gives you 12 options to choose from, but there are actually 34 options in total – you’ll be able to see the full list in later customization. Here’s a full list of compatible social platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Bluesky, OnlyFans, Threads, email, Pinterest, Spotify, Apple Music, Discord, SoundCloud, Tumblr, Patreon, WhatsApp, Dribble, Telegram, Mastodon, Clubhouse, Behance, Bandcamp, Vimeo, Airbnb, Pandora, VK, Amazon, Kickstarter, CashApp, and Reddit.

If you’re using social media as a business, consider what social media platforms you’re most active on and where your audience is most present to achieve maximum impact when building your Bio Site.

Customizing Your Bio Site

After the initial setup, I found myself in the main editing dashboard. You can pick and choose what elements you want, customize your theme, and set your font as well, all from the Bio Site dashboard. For example, I could add the following ecommerce, content, and monetization elements to my link-in-bio:

  • Digital download
  • 1:1 appointments (this feature is currently being tested)
  • Links
  • Text boxes
  • Linked TikTok feed
  • Video
  • Music/podcast
  • Social post
  • Product links
  • Mailing list
  • Tips
  • Crowdfunding

No matter what change I made, everything was reflected in real-time in the preview Bio Site to the right. And, to make an edit permanent, all I had to do was click “Update” in the top right corner.

Do I Recommend Having a Bio Site?

It took me minutes to set up a Bio Site with Squarespace thanks to its intuitive onboarding and easy customization. It’s a great stepping stone for creators and businesses looking to boost their online presence and increase traffic to your website, but there are a few benefits and drawbacks to consider:

Bio Site Pros

✔️ Free to use
✔️ Beginner-friendly
✔️ Engage with your community
✔️ Share important, relevant links
✔️ Monetize your link-in-bio
✔️ Track analytics, such as CTR
✔️ Build an engaged mailing list

Bio Site Cons

❌ Limited to one page
❌ Update links manually if they change
❌ Users have to navigate through multiple links

If you’re looking for more scalability and customization options, it’s worth signing up to a website builder. Squarespace is one of the best website builders we’ve tested this year, and you can use your Bio Site account details to log in to the platform. Pricing for Squarespace’s premium plans range from $16 to $99 per month (billed annually), but you can get 10% off your Squarespace plan with our code “WBE10”.

That said, in my opinion, a link-in-bio is a useful tool to have, even if you already have an established website, online store, or social media profiles. It collects important links together, and makes it easy for you to guide people to a new location. So, whether you’re taking your first steps online or want to create more engagement for your business, a Bio Site is worth setting up.
