Try Wix's AI tools

As a leading website builder, Wix houses powerful AI blogging tools to help you brainstorm, create, and finetune your business blog. Try these tools for free by clicking the link below!
Website builders with built-in AI tools make it easier than ever for non-web designers to bring their vision to life. In fact, more than half of retail and ecommerce businesses have used AI to create their sites. These AI tools have also bled into content creation, and it’s possible to generate anything from imagery and brand logos to long-form website text at the drop of a prompt.

In 2024, a huge 80% of bloggers used AI tools to help with ideation and writing tasks, and when you look at the stats, it’s not surprising why:

  • AI reduces blog writing time by an average of 30%
  • 68% of bloggers report a higher return on investment after using AI

#1. Understand Your Target Audience

Before you start building a website to house your blog, you need to be sure that you’re writing about things your audience wants to know. How do you do this? Good ol’ fashioned market research.

Start by creating a picture of your target audience’s interests and pain points. While there are AI tools for this on the market, I find traditional research gives you the most oversight and control. This is a broad task, so here’s my guidance:

  • Practice social listening to understand what your target audience is talking about online
  • Find timely industry-relevant topics with tools such as Google Trends and Yelp’s Trend Tracker

#2. Know What To Write

With your initial audience research under your belt, you’ll be able to start creating valuable blogging content for your audience! But what do you actually blog about? For your ideas to start taking the shape of blog posts, I recommend this two-step process:

1. Research Keywords

Find out what keywords your target audience is searching for on search engines. Write about these topics and ensure your blog posts contain the related keywords, as this will give your posts a much higher chance of appearing on the relevant search results pages.

Unfortunately, keyword research is a constant task involving overwhelming amounts of data. AI-driven tools will not only speed up this process, but improve upon it by providing:

  • Personalized recommendations based on your website
  • Real-time updates as trends shift

2. Ideate Blog Topics

It may surprise you if you’re used to using tools like ChatGPT, but one of my favorite ways to brainstorm blog content ideas is using a website builder. Using your builder’s AI in this way will help you discover new topics to enlighten your audience about, and it’s often enough to get the creative juices flowing!

I’ve tested a lot of blog ideation tools, and my top recommendation is Wix’s AI Topic Assistant. It provided me with five blog post ideas based on a general topic and my target audience. For each title, I also received an SEO-friendly description and keywords to include to help my posts get found on Google – but more on that later.

#3. Research and Plan

Researching and planning is key to writing high-quality blog posts, but I know I’m not alone in saying it’s also the most time consuming part of the process! Using AI at this early stage can help you to maintain a high volume of blog posts on top of running a business.

Research

AI search engines like ChatGPT are brilliant for researching your articles, since they can scour online content in seconds – you just have to know the right AI prompts to use. Here are the key ChatGPT prompts I use for blog research:

ChatGPT prompts to summarize a complex article:

  • “Can you summarize the main points of this article in a concise manner? [article link]”
  • “Summarize this complex article for [target audience]”
  • “Pull out the key statistical data from this article”

ChatGPT prompts for a topic overview:

  • “What are the pros and cons of [topic]?”
  • “Give me a list of the most frequently asked questions about [topic]”
  • “Give me a step by step process of [topic]”
Top Tip 💡AI prompts don’t operate in isolation. After you receive an answer, you can follow up by asking for a shorter, simpler, or more elaborate version. Or, you can ask follow up with questions about certain areas of the answer. An effective follow up prompt starts with “Try again, but…”

Planning

Even with your title and research to hand, starting from a totally blank page is daunting. Instead, a good AI blog builder can provide a base template for your article.

As an example, let me explain how to use Wix’s AI blog builder to create an outline for a blog post about training for a five kilometer run.

From the “Blog” tab in the sidebar of my dashboard, I found the AI tools section and selected “Create an outline.” Here, I entered the following information:

  • Topic overview
  • Word count range
  • Tone of voice
  • Post type
  • Point of view
  • Reader audience

Once you input the information, click the blue “Create” button to generate an outline tailored to your preferences and audience.

After generating my blog post outline with Wix, I had the option to tweak my title, add AI-generated images, or regenerate my idea. I was also impressed that I could make finer adjustments to specific areas of my plan.

Use Wix for free

Wix instantly generates content for your business blog while taking your brand’s tone of voice into account. Test out its AI blogging features without paying a cent.

You don’t have to follow the template to the letter, but it’s a great starting point. Make sure you build on the plan by incorporating your prior research.

#4. Write First Drafts

AI blog builders, such as my prior example Wix, can also provide a helping hand with your first draft. This typically follows a similar process to planning, but the AI tool will request more details, such as keywords, title ideas, and whether you’d like it to generate media.

An alternative and underrated route is to craft your first draft through speech – perfect for when you know a topic like the back of your hand but you struggle to articulate it in writing. AI apps like Gemini Pro can analyze an audio clip of you talking through an idea and use it to generate a fully-fledged blog draft. This allows you to freely dump any ideas about your article without getting too caught up in sentence structure and punctuation.

Tips for AI Draft Generation

Whether you use an AI blog builder or speak from the heart, here are some pointers to help you get the best draft results:

  • Don’t forget the details: Although AI blog writing will save you time, you should still think long and hard about what you want from your blog post. Take time to craft a detailed description of your topic and target audience so that your builder has lots to go off.
  • Refine your results: AI tools aren’t perfect, but they love to learn and adapt. Don’t be afraid to regenerate your draft, tweak your instructions, and make finer adjustments to the finished result.
  • Train AI on your business’ style and personality: Most conversational AI tools can be trained to fit your expectations. Share links to previous blog articles and ask it to match your new draft to the tone of voice and writing style. If you don’t have any blog articles, any other branded copy will work. Simply copy it from your website and paste it into the tool.

Top Tip

While AI drafts provide a solid starting point for your blog posts, I can’t stress the importance of fact-checking and heavily editing AI-generated results. Nobody, especially not AI, knows your customers and your business better than you. Your first-hand expertise will provide the unique insights your customers value, so be sure to sprinkle them throughout your blog post.

#5. Proofread

Even the wordsmiths among us make mistakes. That’s where proofreading comes in, providing an extra pair of eyes to pick up on any grammatical or structural errors before you hit publish. Unfortunately, this is a lengthy process that many small teams struggle to find time for.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to a freelance editor, AI browser plugins like Grammarly can scan your writing in real-time, and help by:

  • Spotting grammatical errors, such as incorrect spelling and misused punctuation
  • Condensing wordy paragraphs
  • Identifying plagiarized or obviously AI-written sections
Top Tip💡 Many AI plugins will allow you to set a brand voice, which can be synced across your team. When you or your colleagues work on AI drafts, these plugins will be able to detect areas that require rewriting to better fit your brand.

Of course, AI doesn’t fully understand slang, nuance, and critical ideas, so take its suggestions with a grain of salt – there will be instances where your original writing is stronger than the suggestion. Where it is useful is in reducing small, avoidable errors as you write to cut down the time needed for final checks.

#6. Increase the Visibility of Your Blog Posts

To make sure your blog post shows up in Google search results, you need to make sure it meets SEO (search engine optimization) standards. AI website builders provide AI support for writing meta descriptions, meta titles and alt text, and integrating keywords into into your website’s written content. Wix even creates a color-coded checklist of actionable suggestions to improve your blog post’s visibility.

Summary

You should now have an idea of how AI blogging tools can help you start a successful business blog, whether you’re simply looking for inspiration or need added support through the writing process.

Utilizing AI correctly will reduce the time you spend on blogging and editing, and cut the costs of hiring freelancers. Still, remember to check over everything you write, research, and edit with AI tools, and personalize your results to show off your expert knowledge.
