Posting regularly, engaging with your followers, keeping up to date with online trends – there’s lots to juggle when using social media as a business.

To take one task off your list, I’ve spent time handpicking the best social media trends for August, tried and tested by small businesses globally. I’ll explain each trend and include everything you need to recreate it.

I’ll be updating this page as new trends appear throughout the month, so be sure to keep it bookmarked so you don’t miss out!

TikTok Trend: You Look Happier

🎵Trending sound: You Belong With Me: Taylor Swift

When you’re on cloud nine, the simple comment “you look happier” can mean the world. This TikTok trend uses this phrase as a segue to showing the real reason you’re glowing from the inside out. Whether it’s personal or professional, this video is all about spreading joy and positivity.

If you’re looking for a way to show gratitude to your audience, this social media trend for August might be for you. Businesses have been using it to show a number of aspects of work that make them happy, such as opening their store or quitting their full time job to focus on their business.

How To Use This Trend

Instagram Trend: What’s The Mood?

This trend is hot off the press for August, and it’s one of the most creative methods of ecommerce storytelling I’ve seen in a long time. Brands are creating custom emoji keyboards and using them to depict the vibe of their products and services.

The clever part of this trend is that it uses AI-powered visuals to show off what your brand is about and tell a story that attracts your social media target audience.

For example, I saw a yoga business use emojis like a yoga mat, and also include other items that often pair with yoga, such as a coffee(🍵), sneakers (👟), and a shower (🚿).

How To Use This Trend

There are two main methods to use this trend. The easiest is using an iOS device with Apple Intelligence:
  1. Use Apple’s Genmoji to create custom emojis from a prompt, such as “Pink yoga mat.” Create 12 emojis to fill your entire “recently used emojis” tab
  2. Message your brand page “What’s the vibe today?” on Instagram DM or another messaging app
  3. Type the beginning of your reply in the message box, open the emoji keyboard, and screenshot your recently used emojis

Alternatively, you can use an AI-powered emoji generator, such as Emojipedia

  1. Generate and save between eight and 12 emojis, depending on how large you want them to appear on the keyboard
  2. Follow steps two and three above
  3. Open the screenshot in Canva and paste your custom emojis into the keyboard area
