When it comes to getting online, there are few bigger names than GoDaddy. The largest domain provider in the world, GoDaddy is also a one-stop-shop for building, hosting, and marketing your website. Our research found that its website builder could get you online the fastest. Its hosting was middle-of-the-road overall, but it scored very well for features.
For this article, we’ll be looking exclusively at the cost of GoDaddy’s hosting plans. Are they affordable? How do they compare to competitors? And ultimately, are they worth the money?
GoDaddy Pricing: The Overview
In typical GoDaddy fashion, its hosting plans cover all bases. You’ve got super basic shared hosting starting at $2.99/month, all the way up to the top dedicated hosting plan starting at $179.99/month. There’s VPS and WordPress specific hosting on offer, too.
So we’ve established that GoDaddy’s hosting plans cover all bases. Let’s look at the best price for each type:
- Shared hosting – from $2.99/month
- WordPress hosting – from $4.99/month
- Business hosting – from $19.99/month
- VPS hosting – from $29.99/month
- Dedicated servers – from $89.99/month
Not sure what type of GoDaddy hosting you’re after? Here’s a quick overview of who each type is best for, and more detail on the plans available for each:
1. Shared Hosting
Shared hosting is best for small, personal sites, or business sites with only a couple of pages. You get what you pay for in the world of web hosting, and GoDaddy’s shared hosting is no exception. It’s very cheap, but the fact you’re constantly jostling with other sites for resources makes it a no-go for larger sites.
|Pricing Plan||Features Include||Price/month|
|Economy||24/7 support, 100GB storage, unmetered bandwidth, free business email, free domain||$2.99|
|Deluxe||Economy features, plus unlimited websites, storage and subdomains||$4.99|
|Ultimate||Deluxe features, plus double the processing power and memory, a free SSL certificate (for one term), and unlimited databases||$5.99|
|Maximum||Ultimate features, plus double the processing power and memory, double the maximum site traffic, and a free SSL certificate for the full term||$12.99|
These are GoDaddy’s promotional prices for shared hosting. Regular prices start at $7.99/month.
GoDaddy’s shared pricing plans range from $2.99/month to $12.99/month. Each plan builds on the previous set of features, working up to the most powerful ‘Maximum’ plan, which has four times the processing power and memory of the Deluxe and Economy plans (plus an SSL certificate for the full term). It claims to support ‘multiple complex sites with high-res photos and videos’, but we’d still recommend a VPS for such sites.
2. WordPress Hosting
As you may have guessed, WordPress hosting is hosting that’s specially designed for WordPress sites. WordPress sites will work fine with any type of hosting on this list, but WordPress-specific hosting comes with some added benefits, such as auto-installed updates.
|Pricing plan||For traffic up to (visitors/month)||Number of websites||Storage||Price/month|
|Pro 5+||800,000||5-50||50-200 GB||$24.99|
These are GoDaddy’s promotional prices for WordPress hosting. Regular prices start at $9.99/month.
As you can see, it’s easy to pick the best hosting plan for your site (or sites) based solely on the amount of traffic you get each month. $4.99/month for a site generating 25,000 monthly visits certainly sounds reasonable, but what exactly are you getting for your money?
All of GoDaddy’s WordPress hosting plans include:
- A free domain (when you sign up to a year’s plan or more)
- Free daily backups with one-click restore
- Built-in signup forms for capturing client data
Better still, the more you spend, the more perks you get – including free SSL certificates with the Ultimate and Pro 5+ plans.

3. Business Hosting
‘Business hosting’ is GoDaddy’s secret weapon – the power of VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting, but without the tricky setup or higher price tag. If you’re outgrowing your shared hosting plan, this is a great next step. You get all the benefits of a dedicated server, without the need for an IT guy to manage it for you.
|Pricing plan||Storage||RAM (memory)||CPUs (Core Processing Units)||Price/month|
|Launch||60 GB||2 GB||1||$19.99|
|Enhance||90 GB||4 GB||2||$34.99|
|Grow||120 GB||6 GB||3||$44.99|
|Expand||150 GB||8 GB||4||$59.99|
These are GoDaddy’s promotional prices for business hosting. Regular prices start at $29.99/month.
All GoDaddy’s business hosting plans come with unmetered traffic, unlimited websites and databases, and a standard SSL certificate included. The more you’re willing to spend, the more storage, RAM (memory) and CPUs (power) you’ll be able to tap into. GoDaddy’s business hosting plans can cover everything from multiple basic sites (Launch plan) to multiple photography or resource-heavy sites (Expand plan).

4. VPS Hosting
Just as ‘business’ hosting is a happy medium between shared and VPS hosting, VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting is one step closer to a dedicated server – without the added price tag. With a VPS hosting plan, you have a ‘virtual server’ that acts like a dedicated server, but within a shared space – kind of like having an apartment in a shared block of apartments, rather than a detached house.
|Pricing plan||Storage||RAM (memory)||CPUs (Core Processing Units)||Price/month|
|Launch||40 GB||2 GB||1||$29.99|
|Enhance||60 GB||4 GB||2||$44.99|
|Grow||150 GB||6 GB||3||$59.99|
|Expand||200 GB||8 GB||4||$74.99|
There are no promotional prices offered on GoDaddy’s VPS hosting plans.
In terms of plans, GoDaddy’s VPS plans look very similar to its Business ones. The only real difference is a jump in storage – up to 200 GB on the Expand plan – and therefore in price. GoDaddy promises to get your VPS server up and running in minutes, and takes care of managing the whole thing for you. These VPS plans are best suited to eCommerce sites, or resource-heavy apps. They’re also a good option if you have multiple sites on the go, as the isolated environment means one site won’t impact on the loading times of another.
5. Dedicated Server Hosting
A dedicated server – this means you’ve made it! Welcome to your fully detached internet abode, your online slice of real estate heaven.
Who needs a dedicated server? Any website with a lot of content that’s expecting a lot of traffic. Website Builder Expert is hosted on a dedicated server, for example.
|Pricing plan||Storage||RAM (memory)||Price/month|
|Economy||1 TB||4 GB||$89.99|
|Value||1.5 TB||8 GB||$104.99|
|Deluxe||2 TB||16 GB||$129.99|
|Ultimate||2 TB||32 GB||$179.99|
With prices starting at $89.99/month, GoDaddy’s dedicated hosting plans are – as you’d expect – a considerable jump in price from its VPS hosting plans. The storage and RAM increase steadily across the four plans, with the Ultimate plan offering the most of each for $179.99/month.
So we’ve covered GoDaddy’s plans, and what you get for your money. But the big question is: how do GoDaddy’s prices stack up against its biggest competitors?
Promotional Price Comparison
|GoDaddy||$2.99 – $12.99||$4.99 – $24.99||$29.99 – $74.99||$89.99 – $179.99|
|HostGator||$3.92 – $5.95||$5.95 – $9.95||$29.95 – $49.95||$118.99 – $149.00|
|InMotion||$6.39 – $14.71||$7.26 – $119.28||$29.19 – $69.34||$105.69 – $519.49|
|Bluehost||$2.75 – $13.95||$2.95 – $5.45||$19.99 – $59.99||$79.99 – $119.99|
As you can see, GoDaddy sits somewhere in the middle when it comes to the promotional prices of its plans. It normally offers up the second cheapest plan for each type of hosting, finding itself pipped to the post by Bluehost.
It’s worth noting, though, that GoDaddy doesn’t offer as heavily discounted promotional prices as competitors. Their renewal prices look a lot more competitive:
Renewal Price Comparison
|GoDaddy||$7.99 – $24.95||$9.99 – $24.99||$29.99 – $74.99||$169.99 – $349.99|
|HostGator||$6.96 – $14.95||$9.92 – $23.12||$89.95 – $159.95||$189.00 – $289.00|
|InMotion||$7.99 – $24.99||$8.99 – $142.99||$39.99 – $144.99||$189.99 – $589.99|
|Bluehost||$7.99 – $23.99||$7.99 – $14.99||$29.99 – $119.99||$119.99 – $209.99|
As you can see, the renewal rates make for a more level playing field when it comes to pricing. While Bluehost still offers the cheapest basic WordPress and dedicated hosting plans, the GoDaddy VPS plan comes out cheapest.
When it comes to keeping your site online, the cost of hosting is really only half the story.
That’s where GoDaddy really comes into its own. Its hosting plans might not really excel in any one area, but the ability to tack extra virus protection, backups, and other security onto your plan can make it a really appealing option. It’s much easier – not to mention better value – to keep these things all under one virtual roof:
1. SSL Certificates
Price: $63.99/year – $295.99/year, or free with some hosting plans
An SSL certificate is essential for any credible website, giving you that all-important padlock next to your site’s URL. Without it, users will be warned that your site is ‘Not Secure’, which isn’t exactly the best look! On top of that, if you want to take credit card payments, an SSL certificate really is critical for keeping customer data safe
GoDaddy offers SSL certificates starting at $63.99/year for one website, rising to $295.99/year for multiple websites and subdomains.
Lots of its higher tier hosting plans also come with a free SSL certificate included as standard for at least the first term, so that’s worth looking out for.
2. Website Security Packages
Price: $5.59/month – $23.99/month
With prices starting at just $5.59/month, GoDaddy’s security packages are a no-brainer. With the cheapest ‘Essential’ plan, you get a 12-hour response time to any issues, unlimited malware removal, and Google blacklist monitoring and removal. The pricier the plan, the more extras you’ll have included.
The best response time with a GoDaddy web security package is six hours. Bump yourself to the top of the list with ‘Express Malware Removal’, which guarantees you’ll speak to a security expert within 30 minutes of an issue being identified. At $299.99/year, it’s a pricey add-on – but for bigger businesses, it’s worth every cent.
3. Website Backup Packages
Price: $2.99/month – $12.99/month
Smart people back up their websites – but the smartest people get someone else to do it for them.
Both the ‘Essential’ and ‘Ultimate’ backup plans include automatic daily backups, easy one-click restore, and expert 24/7 customer support, among other benefits. The only difference between the two plans is the amount of storage available; 5GB with the Essential plan, and 100GB with the Ultimate plan.
So now we’ve walked you through the cost of GoDaddy’s various hosting plans, and seen how it stacks up against competitors, what’s the final verdict?
GoDaddy isn’t necessarily the provider you come to for the cheapest price. While its pricing is fairly competitive, especially when you look past the initial promotional prices, it’s rarely the cheapest provider available.
So, who should consider hosting through GoDaddy?
GoDaddy’s selling point over other providers is the range of extra features and packages you can get alongside your hosting plan to keep your website healthy and protected. It’s easy, and it’s convenient – and ultimately, that’s worth paying a few extra dollars here and there.
1. How much does GoDaddy hosting cost per year?
It depends! If you’re just after a simple shared hosting plan, you can pay as little as $2.99/month. If you’re after a dedicated hosting plan, you’re looking at between $89.99/month and $179.99/month.
2. Does GoDaddy charge monthly or yearly?
You can pay for your GoDaddy hosting monthly or annually. In fact, you can pay up to five years in advance! Bear in mind that the longer you commit, the more you’ll save.
3. Is it easy to transfer your site to GoDaddy?
Yep, it’s super easy. If you have your existing website files already, then simply upload them through the Hosting Control center or via an FTP client. If you don’t have these files yet, just request them from your current hosting provider. GoDaddy’s 24/7 support team is on hand to help at any point.
