Squarespace is one of our favorite website builders, allowing you to create a functional and aesthetic website with very little need for code or development knowledge.

Over recent years the platform has added additional features to slowly turn it into an all-around online marketing platform.

One of those features is Email Campaigns, which gives users the tools to manage and send e-newsletters and email campaigns from within their website dashboard.

If you’re unsure how to get started with Squarespace Email Campaigns, or you’re still trying to decide whether it’s the right option for you, then you’ve come to the right place.

In this article, we’ll talk you through everything there is to know about Squarespace email marketing, so you can get the most out of the platform.

What Is Squarespace Email Campaigns?

The Squarespace Email Campaigns add-on was introduced back in 2019 and allows users to manage their email marketing campaigns from within their Squarespace dashboard, linking their campaigns to their existing Squarespace account.

The integrated email marketing feature gives users the ability to:

  • Align email campaigns with your existing website, pulling content from on-site blogs and imagery directly into your newsletters.
  • Manage your website and email campaigns all within the same interface.
  • Access in-depth analytics that allow you to understand the relationship between site visitors and email subscribers.

Squarespace’s email marketing features are relatively basic when compared to major email campaign platforms such as Campaign Monitor, however, they’re ideal for email marketing beginners.

Within the add-on, you’ll be able to access multiple email templates that align with different marketing goals, such as “Update”, “Sale” or “Announce”.

Squarespace email templates
It’s easy to edit your Squarespace email templates to ensure they align with your website and branding.

One of the best things about Squarespace’s email templates is that they match the platform’s website templates, too. This means you won’t have any trouble finding one that reflects your existing brand and website.

If you want to send something a little different, there’s also the option to create your own email template. Although this might sound tricky, the email editor uses the same drag-and-drop feature that the Squarespace website builder is so famous for, making the whole process simple.

Squarespace also comes with an automation feature (meaning you won’t have to manually send all of your emails), as well as a simple Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool where you can create unlimited subscriber lists and make notes on specific user profiles.

Squarespace Email Marketing: Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
A cheap option for those who want to focus on email marketing but have a tight budget. No segmentation, you can’t currently segment your audience to understand different user behavior.
It’ll integrate straight into your existing Squarespace dashboard. Unlike other platforms, there is no A/B split testing available.
Email templates align with website themes for brand cohesion. No automated sequences, you can only set up one automated email.
Easy to use and features the same drag-and-drop software as the Squarespace website builder. Limited fonts are available.
Connected to your existing website content so you include on-site blogs and imagery in your newsletters. You can’t save your branded elements (e.g. fonts, colors) instead you’ll need to set them up separately for each campaign.
Email automation, for faster, less manual sending. Basic analytics and no option to compare the success of one email campaign to another.

How Much Does Squarespace Email Marketing Cost?

Squarespace email campaigns pricing plans
If you're ready to upgrade, the cheapest Squarespace email campaign plan starts at $5 per month (billed annually).

The Squarespace Email Campaigns add-on is available for all Squarespace websites. You can try the feature out for free, but you’ll only be able to create and send three campaigns in this trial period.

When you’re ready to upgrade, there are four plans to choose from:

  • Starter: For $5 per month you’ll be able to create 3 campaigns and send 500 emails.
  • Core: For $10 per month you’ll be able to create 5 campaigns and send 5000 emails.
  • Pro: For $24 per month you’ll be able to create 20 campaigns and send 50,000 emails.

Getting Started With Squarespace Email Marketing

You’ll find the Email Campaigns dashboard within your main Squarespace interface. Simply navigate to ‘Marketing’ and thenEmail Campaigns’ to get started.

You can set up your mailing lists and user profiles in the Building mailing lists section.

Remember to add a footer or pop-up to your Squarespace website to encourage visitors to sign-up.

There are over 70 email templates you can choose from within Squarespace Email Campaigns, so you should be able to find a template you like. If not, there’s a drag-and-drop builder, so you can create your own from scratch.

Just like website templates, you can customize your emails with brand colors and fonts so that everything aligns with your existing online branding.

There are over 70 customizable templates to choose from.

The ‘Blog content block’ is one of Squarespace’s best email features. Once you’ve added it to your template, you can select a blog from your website to feature in your email. It’ll import the title, image, and link automatically, so you won’t have to leave the email campaign interface at all.

Within your campaigns dashboard, you can also set up ‘Automated campaigns’ that are sent in response to a subscriber action, such as signing up to your newsletter or abandoning their shopping cart.

Automated emails don’t count towards your monthly campaign limit but they are included within your monthly email limit so make sure you keep an eye on how many are being sent out and adjust your campaign accordingly.

Once a campaign has been sent, you’ll be able to view a report on its success in the analytics section of the dashboard. This details key stats such as open rate, click-through rate, and insights into which links users clicked on.
