Nowadays, almost everything is online, and having a digital presence as an entrepreneur or small business is non-negotiable if you want to succeed. But high website costs can derail getting up and running. That’s where website builders like Weebly come in. Weebly’s goal is to make website building accessible with intuitive tools and adjustable pricing tiers to accommodate a range of needs and budgets.

Weebly is an affordable builder, with a free plan and three paid plans ranging from $10 to $26 per month (billed annually). But while Weebly is undeniably a very budget-friendly choice, we only recommend it for small personal projects, due to a lack of scalable features and recent updates.

Read on to learn what Weebly offers across free and paid plans, so you can get the lowdown on the key costs regarding this website builder.

Like most website builders, there’s more than one plan when it comes to using Weebly. It has three paid plans: Personal, Professional, and Performance. We recommend opting for an annual plan, which results in the lowest monthly cost. Weebly also has a free plan which you can stay on for as long as you like, and even comes with basic ecommerce tools!

Let’s take a closer look.

Now you know the basics of how much Weebly costs, let’s look at each plan’s costs and features, and who we recommend them for.

Free Plan: $0

Site Features

  • SSL security
  • 3rd party embed code

If you want to dip your toes in the water without any commitment, it’s worth giving the free plan a spin. We won’t beat around the bush, though; it’s pretty basic when it comes to site features. Moreover, it includes ads for Square on your website.

You get free SSL security, which encrypts sensitive information transmitted between a web server and a browser so that your site visitors can safely share personal data without worrying about security breaches or hacks.

There’s also 3rd party embed code for easily integrating payment processors, booking services, social media feeds, and other external tools that help expand your site’s capabilities beyond the Weebly core platform.

That’s about it as far as site features are concerned.

Ecommerce Features

  • Shopping cart
  • Unlimited items
  • Item badges
  • Item options
  • Quick shop
  • Inventory management
  • In-store pickup
  • Automatic tax calculator
  • Vouchers
  • Square gift cards

The ecommerce features you get on Weebly’s free plan are pretty impressive. Not many website builders let you sell for free, with leading platforms like Shopify starting at $29 per month. Weebly’s free plan features a shopping cart, unlimited items for ecommerce, inventory management, automatic tax calculator, and more.

Market and Support Features

  • SEO
  • Lead capture
  • Instagram feed
  • Community forum
  • Chat and email support

There’s also marketing help in the form of SEO tools and an Instagram feed to help drive traffic through social media promotions. You don’t, however, get a custom domain, which means your site URL will have “weebly.com” in it rather than using your own branding or business name.

For support, you can rely on chat and email help on the website, along with access to the community forum page.

Personal Plan: $10/month

Site Features

  • Everything from the Free plan, plus:
  • Connect a custom domain

If you sign up for the personal plan for a year, it’ll cost you $120 as opposed to $156 if you pay monthly. For those prices, you get a custom domain, which gives your website a touch of authenticity and personalization.

Ecommerce Features

  • Everything from the Free plan, plus:
  • Digital goods
  • Shipping calculator
  • Shipping labels

You get all the same features as the free plan, as well as shipping calculator and shipping label options for ecommerce stores. It’s mostly the ability to connect a custom domain that makes this plan more suitable for selling online, creating a more professional, and memorable, brand experience for customers.

Marketing and Support Features

  • Everything from the Free plan, plus:
  • Pop-up notifications

This plan comes with the option to create pop-ups for your website with the aim of capturing visitor emails, promoting sales, highlighting important notices, or driving other desired actions to engage your audience. Support is the same as the free plan.

Professional Plan: $12/month

✅Annual price: $12 per month ✅Monthly price: $16 month-to-month ✅For entrepreneurs freelancers and small businesses needing a basic store or simple brochure website ❌No priority support ❌ Not for large online stores (no item reviews or abandoned cart recovery)

Site Features

  • Everything from the Personal plan, plus:
  • Unlimited storage
  • Advanced site stats
  • Free domain
  • Remove Square ads
  • Password protection

If you’re looking for a bit more from your website-building experience, the Professional plan lets you get under the hood when it comes to creating a website. You’ll benefit from unlimited storage for all your rich media content without needing to worry about exceeding capacity limits.

Connect your own custom domain for a professional appearance that boosts branding efforts—a free domain registration is also included to lower ownership barriers. You’ll also get helpful insights into visitor interactions with advanced site statistics conveying traffic and behavior data. Plus, you can remove Square advertisements for cleaner layouts.

Ecommerce Features

  • Everything from the Personal plan; no extras

As for ecommerce, it provides the same options as the Personal plan, such as a shipping calculator, unlimited items, and inventory management, to name a few. This is a bit disappointing, as there are few reasons to upgrade from a purely ecommerce perspective. You do get phone support, however. That’s great for anyone who would rather speak directly to a human about any issues they’re having.

Marketing and Support Features

  • Everything from the Personal plan, plus:
  • Phone support

Marketing features come in the form of SEO tools, lead capture, an Instagram feed, and pop-up notifications—the same as the Personal plan.

The Professional plan aims to satisfy small businesses, organizations, and bloggers seeking full-control over sleek, branded websites with pro-level customizations. If, however, you’re after a basic personal site, you might not require the enhanced features.

Performance Plan: $26/month

Site Features

  • Everything from the Professional plan; no extras

Ecommerce Features

  • Everything from the Professional plan, plus:
  • Accept payments through PayPal
  • Item reviews
  • Abandoned cart emails

The Weebly Performance plan takes things up slightly when it comes to ecommerce (though not by a whole lot). Most users will be disappointed to get pretty similar site features as the Professional Plan, meaning the main reason to upgrade is to access more ecommerce tools.

Even then, the only additional features include the ability to accept PayPal payments, item reviews, abandoned cart emails, and advanced ecommerce insights. These are essential features for a store looking to grow, which poses a problem; Weebly only offers these features on its most expensive plan, giving merchants nowhere to grow to after this.

Moreover, Weebly doesn’t really stack up against competitors as far pricing goes. It costs $26 per month, which is $1 less than Wix and $3 less than Shopify—both of which offer more features and scalability. Shopify, although more expensive, offers key features like abandoned cart recovery on its cheapest plan, making it a much more scalable option long-term.

Marketing and Support Features

  • Everything from the Professional plan, plus:
  • Advanced ecommerce insights
  • Priority support

Weebly has plenty of support options. Source: Website Builder Expert

Weebly’s marketing features are also near-identical to the Personal and Professional plans, although there are advanced ecommerce insights for store sellers. As for support, you’ll get priority access as a Performance plan user, meaning you can expect to get queries answered in a timely manner.

The ecommerce point is worth zeroing in on again, as the plan is really only for people who want to sell online and have access to options like accepting PayPal payments. Otherwise, you’re probably better off sticking with the Professional plan.

Weebly brings accessible website building to the table, catering to beginners and budget-focused users. While it is a very affordable option, with a generous free plan and a starting price of just $10/month, Weebly’s lack of features and updates means it doesn’t offer great value for money.

Let’s evaluate its pros, cons, and compare it against competitors to find out why.

Price Comparison

Weebly has a free plan, which is a big bonus if you want to try the website builder without any commitment. Even for paid options, Weebly is cheaper than Wix and Squarespace, with the Personal plan at just $10 monthly when billed yearly, compared to the Light plan on Wix ($17) and Basic on Squarespace ($16).

However, while Wix and Squarespace do cost more, we’d argue that the extra expense buys better design and features, such as more in-depth templates and add-ons. Wix and Squarespace are constantly releasing updates and improvements, whereas Weebly hasn’t released a new feature in years, falling behind its competition.More Information

Who Is Weebly Best Suited For?

Beginners and the budget-conscious will find Weebly attractive. While it’s not as in-depth as some of the competitors, its simple interface and low prices will appeal if you want to build a website but aren’t overly concerned with having an array of features.

As far as ecommerce is concerned, Weebly stacks up well for small businesses – although for growing stores, we recommend choosing Square Online, or an even better platform like Shopify, instead.

Where Weebly Wins

There’s no doubt that Weebly stands out for its ease of use, acting as a highly intuitive, if basic, platform even for total beginners. Strong customer service earns kudos as well, with multiple support avenues available—especially if you’re on higher-tired plans. When it comes to the free plan, Weebly is quite generous. While the website features might be on the shallow side, its ecommerce plan is one of the rare free options on the market, with tons of features ready to get online stores up and running.

Where Weebly Falters

Weebly has stagnated in recent years, with no new updates or features to speak of. This leaves it feeling outdated and not up to scratch with other builders available. This lack of development makes you question what you’re paying for, with no new designs, AI tools, or feature improvements to help you succeed.

Despite Weebly’s low costs, we feel that other website builders offer much more when it comes to paid plans. Customization and design options typically lag competitors like Wix and Squarespace, with fewer options to make your website truly stand out.

Weebly is upfront about its costs, but it’s worth digging a little deeper to understand what you get, be it the free or paid plans. For instance, it advertises the Professional plan as being free of Square ads (Square, an online payments platform, purchased Weebly in May 2018). But that means the free and Personal plan feature advertisements from Square, something that’s not obviously clear when looking at the pricing.

There are also payment processing fees to consider if you’re using the ecommerce option to sell online. Weebly processes payments with standard industry fees of 2.9% plus a $0.30 fee per transaction.

Weebly also has plenty of apps you can add-on. While these are optional, you can integrate the likes of Zoho Books, Xero, and more to your website. Of course, not all of these are free, and cost up to $500 extra depending on the app type.

While the domain name is free for the first year on higher-tier plans, you’ll need to pay for it after 12 months and pay around $20. You can also add an email for an additional $5 per month.

Weebly strikes an affordable balance between cost and key features for personal sites and smaller businesses, not to mention that it has one of the best free plans going. However, users who want customization freedom, standout design, or advanced ecommerce will find better value in other builders like Squarespace, despite higher prices.

If you want to try Weebly, you can test out its free plan today, or if you’re looking for a more scalable and affordable builder, check out our list of the best cheap website builders on the market!

I’ve worked with a wide variety of companies, from established brands to early-stage startups. Whether it’s a short, snappy piece of copy or a long-form article, the end game has always been the same–to provide helpful insights that enlighten the reader.

Having a background in advertising has given me a unique lens through which to view topics. I love turning tricky subjects–like website security certificates and crafting a customer journey map–into easy-to-understand pieces of content that capture attention whether you’re reading at home or browsing while out and about.

After all, the reader is at the heart of everything I do.

Beyond that, he’s been writing for a decade and has worked with a number of brands across B2C and B2B industries from all walks of life. His strength lies in his diversity, whether it’s articles for real estate, providing marketing content to restaurants and travel brands, or penning content about eco-friendly issues.

I wanted to know if I paid $10 US per month for 12 months, I would get an email address with this, or is it an additional cost? Which plan includes email? I'm currently on the free plan.

      Hi Olga,
None of Weebly's plans include a free emal address unfortunately! The best option I can think of its that Squarespace provides one free year of the Google Workspace Starter plan which allows you to create email addresses for your custom domain. But to be eligbe you'll bee to be on the Business plan minimum, which costs $23/month (billed annually) and so may be outside the budget you had in mind.
Sorry I can't be of more help, Weebly's stopped releasing new features over the past few years so if you want to find an alternative to Weebly, check out our guide.

I have had a weebly site for many years and I was just told that my Business Plus Site plan has been discontinued.
They said I needed to go to the Premium Site plan which is $72 a month to get all my existing support. The Premium site plan does not show up on most descriptions of their plans (including yours above) and when they did point to a place where I can see it, I don't see much value in the higher plan. Are you aware of this option? Why is it so secretive and frankly hard to get any information from Weebly

Hi Dave. Sorry to hear about this. Support for Weebly has been discontinued for a few years, with most of its team and support moving to Square Online, its ecommerce platform. Weebly allows its current users to move to Square Online for free, with its plans starting at $29/month. There's also a free plan you can sell on! You can find out more about the two platform here. Hope this helps! All the best - Sam

      Hi Darsh,
Thanks for your comment! You'll only have to pay the $12 per month fee (billed annually) if you upgrade to Weebly's Professional plan, which includes free hosting. If you're currently on the cheaper Personal plan or Weebly's free plan, then you can continue to pay your existing plan charge. I hope that helps!

Is it easy to download audio/mp3 and video/mp4 files to sell on my weebly website once I create it . Also there are manuals to go along with the various mp3 and mp4 package products that the customer will download once they pay for it/them.
Is this something that can be done easily and effectively on weebly? If not who would you recommend for this type of sales?

      Hi Paulette,
Thanks for your comment! You can sell digital items such as MP3s using Weebly - you can find directions on this in its guide here. It's worth noting that digital products like this can't be larger than 3GB. You can add multiple files in the Upload File section, so that's where you can also include the manual for your customers. If Weebly doesn't work out, you can also try Wix, which tops our list of the best musician website builders.
      I hope this helps!

It's confusing that the prices for me (in Finland) seem to be almost twice as high as presented here. Could you please show the real prices to be trustworthy. I've had Weebly since 2015 and I'm now considering to upgrade, but I don't like to be secretly charched double. In the beginning 2015 the prices were "normal".

We're sorry if our pricing has confused you! We're an American based website and do our very best to update our (US) prices regularly. But thank you for flagging this as an issue, for now you should check Weebly and other providers website's for the prices in Finland - but I will discuss this with peers to see if we can create world-wide pricing lists. Thanks again!

Is there a weebly plan that protects my site from hackers and site redirection malware?

    • Lucy Carney
      Lucy Carney

      Hi Sheila,
Thanks for your question! All Weebly plans are designed to protect your site from hackers and malware. All Weebly sites come with a free SSL certificate, which is important for both security and SEO! All Weebly sites are also protected by a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) mitigation service which should protect your site fro more advanced cyber attacks. Platforms often aren't too detailed about the security measures they have in place so as not to give hackers too much information, so I would recommend reaching out to Weebly directly for a more in-depth answer. But in short, no Weebly plan should be more secure than another.
      Hope this helps!

We need an ecommerce website for 'one of a kind' handmade jewelry. The site must be able to automatically disable the 'Add to cart' button after the first person buys a featured piece of jewelry. We would be adding new pieces into the site on a daily basis. We would start out with approximately 50 pieces of 'one of a kind' pieces at the beginning. We already use Square so Weebly would be fine if it would work this way. Otherwise maybe Shopify would be better using Shopify pay? Very confusing but the key is the ability of the template to operate a 'one of a kind' business as described. We will get someone to help us set up a template. We want a cart business and not just a professional artist website where a buyer has to call by phone to order something and give us the credit card info. We have been in business for 8 years and have customers all over the country that like our product. Open to any and all suggestions. Thank you very much.

Hi Gerald! Thank you for your comment! Weebly does offer banners that appear on product pics when they are low or out of stock. You can check that out here! If you'd like to actually email your customers when stock is back in, then both Shopify and Wix operate a service like this. Here is the setup for Wix and here is the setup for Shopify. We think this the best option for getting what you want for your jewelry store. Hope this helps! All the best - Sam

Are transfers from an already purchased domain easy with Weebly? How do you do it?

    • Lucy Carney
      Lucy Carney

      Hi Meg,

Thanks for your question - I'm happy to help you out here! First, just to make things clear - if you already have a domain registered elsewhere and want to use that domain for the address of your Weebly site, you can do this without actually transferring your domain to Weebly. All you need to do is "point" your domain to your new Weebly site! You can then keep the domain registered where it is. Transferring your domain to Weebly means that Weebly will then be your registrar, and you'll manage and renew the domain through your Weebly account. You don't have to transfer your domain to Weebly if you don't want to. I hope that makes sense!

So, to answer your question about transferring your domain (so that Weebly is your new registrar): If your domain ends in .com, .net, or .org then you can transfer it to Weebly. You visit the Domains page in your Weebly account, click the transfer button there, and type your domain into the window that appears. Click Next, which will take you to a checkout page where you add a year to your domain's registration. You then need to carry out a few more steps before transfer is complete. Here's Weebly's guide on transferring your domain.

If that's not what you had in mind, here's Weebly's guide on How to Use a Domain You Purchased Elsewhere. It helps to explain the difference between your two options, and has some handy next steps. Unless you really want to transfer your domain, I would recommend simply pointing the domain to your Weebly site as it's much easier!

I hope that's helped, and wasn't too confusing - domains can be tricky things! Thanks for reading, and best of luck with your decision -

      Lucy Carney

      Hi Mary,
Thanks for your question! Weebly offers monthly, yearly, and two year subscriptions. The plan you choose will automatically renew when the subscription is coming to an end. So, if you sign up to the annual Starter plan at $8 a month, you will pay $96 every year until you cancel or change your subscription plan. So there's no hidden third year costs waiting for you.
I hope that helps, and if you're thinking about using Weebly make sure you've read our full review too!

does Weebly provide webmail hosting? Or do I have to sign up for another service?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hey Maureen,

Weebly doesn't have its own email hosting feature. They've partnered up with Google to help you integrate G Suite (basically the business version of Gmail in which you can have your own custom domain email address). The cost is about $4 per month.

I believe the reason for this is that email hosting is not Weebly's main area of competency (same as other reputable website builders). As such, they partner up with strong service providers (such as Google) to extend those features to users.

It does cost a little bit more per month (about $4) but it's well worth it. We use G Suite email ourselves and it's reliable and secure.

      Hi Mike,

You can always start with the Starter plan (lowest paid plan). If you need more tools, you can always upgrade at any time. This way, you can save some money as you build out your website.

I am undecided on Wix or Weebly. I have a small home building company and want to build a website. I need a new domain and email for up to three people. My problem with my current site is cost, name change, and honestly I have no idea how to change anything. I want to do this myself to save money and be able to make quick changes. I also never have enough email storage with my email host. I like both Wix and Weebly but mostly I need the domain, which I know they offer, but also need larger than 1G of email storage and preferably with my domain name, and for more than one person ,as I have a partner. What do you recommend?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hello Kyle,

Both Wix and Weebly offer integration with Google Business Apps email services, so basically the email will be powered by Google (think Gmail user interface). I think normally you'd get around 30 GB storage. We use Google's email services for our custom email address and that's what we get (for about $4 per month).

So both website builders make it easy for you to set up your emails. You can also purchase your custom domain name directly from Wix or Weebly, or you can purchase it separately from a domain name registrar. We have a domain name guide here that will go over some basics about this.

      Hope this helps!

You omit to mention the issue of the discounts and whether these are available beyond initial sign-up.

I've just heard of somebody who has been sent his renewal letter and it's a 100% increase on what he first paid.

Now if the two year option is still available you'd think that would be clear in the renewal letter - but it doesn't sound like it is.

(PS Since the free websites are no longer indexed by Google, the free option is now nothing more than a vanity publishing effort - so pricing of the Starter option becomes more critical - particularly for those committed to the long term.)

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hi Mama,

Thanks for your comment and raising this concern. I'm not entirely sure if that's right, though?

I was always able to renew at the same rates as when I signed up, and had a choice of 6 months, 1 year or 2 years.

They've had a history of keeping their prices at the same level for those who already subscribed to premium plans, even after they raise their prices. So they would "grandfather" in the older, lower prices for existing customers. I had a few premium accounts and that was awesome.

It makes sense from a business perspective for Weebly to offer discounts if you're willing to lock in a longer period. It's a win-win for them and for their users.

And based on my experience of working with their platform for many years, I think the management team at Weebly is very fair and ethical. I haven't experienced any dodgy switch-and-bait practices at all! So personally, I've been very happy with their services.

I completely agree with your last point!

Thanks for adding to this discussion!

I am a little confused on exactly what site search means. Is this to do with google finding you? I have been on starter for about 6 months, but google will not find me unless I type in my web name. So keywords etc don't seem to be working.

      Hello Tina,

Site search is just a search bar you can insert into your Weebly website so your visitors can search for content on your website. So it does not mean that your website will become more searchable in search engine results.

We have a website builder SEO guide that goes over this topic in more in-depth details, which will help you understand how you can become more discoverable in search engine results.

Hello. I just invested in Weebly Starter and I was able to connect a domain for site 1, and remove the footer for site 2. But when I tried to remove the footer for site 1, it says I cannot and must upgrade my plan? I'm curious, does the Starter Pack simply let you do one of everything throughout your account and disregard which site it is on because it is the same account?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hey Schuyler,

With Weebly, you can only upgrade one single website at a time. So for instance, you can have 5 websites within one single account. But you'll need to upgrade one single website at a time.

If you upgraded 1 website to a Starter plan, then only that one website receives the features that the Starter plan offers. The other four websites won't get any of these benefits.

The only exception that I'm aware of, is if you signed up to this account a couple of years ago when Weebly used to let you upgrade all your websites within your account all at once. That was a while back though.

Did you get a chance to ask Weebly's support team about this?

      Jeremy

    Hi there
I am looking to upgrade to either Pro or Starter. (I live in SA so with the exchange rates this is expensive) I have my own domain name, what is the process and how long after I upgrade will I be live with my new domain? What do I do for e mail addresses, is that offered by Weebly? If I take the two year option do I pay all 24 months up-front in one lump sum?

    Cheers
    Marko

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hello Marko,

Once you connect your domain name from your domain name registrar to Weebly, it might take up to 24 hours for it to make the formal connection. My own experience is that it might take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

You will find tutorials on how to connect your domain name from your registrar to Weebly in their support center.

Weebly doesn't offer their own email systems where you can create your own custom email addresses. However, they have partnered up with Google so for about $3.75 per month you can create a unique email address for your business. You get to use Google's Gmail user interface which is quite good. We use Google Business App to power our own email and we enjoy its reliability and dependability.

If you choose Weebly's 24 months plan (you get the steepest discount that way), you will have to pay the entire 24 month period upfront. That's the trade off for getting a really good deal.

      Hey Archibal,

What you can try to do is publish your website after you've uploaded your files, then "right click" on the file on the webpage (the file you uploaded), and you should be able to copy the URL to the file. Give that a try?

In terms of payment methods, I'm not sure what other methods Weebly has, aside from transacting with major credit cards (such as Visa, Mastercard) and with PayPal. Those are the most common methods of receiving payments. Perhaps reach out to their support team directly to see if there are other arrangements?

    Hi Jeremy,
I'm trying to make a website where i publish articles and then post the links to my website on facebook and twitter so my friends and followers can read them. Is weebly pro okay to use? All i really need is a search button and a page where all my articles are posted so people can scroll through them. I would also need for my friends and i to be able to all have access to adding new articles on the website.
Also possibly some ads around my articles if the website gets popular enough. Does weebly allow ads from other companies or no?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hello Jake,

Yes you can definitely share your blog posts or articles on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. You can either click on the social buttons for your blog post, or you can just go to your FB or Twitter account and copy and paste the post address to share it.

Weebly Pro also gives you a search button, so your visitors / friends can search through your website using this tool.

Weebly also allows you to add other administrators / editors to your website, so your friends can definitely access the site to add pages / articles. You'll have full control over who has access, and how much access he/she receives (just in case you don't want to give up too much access to specific people).

Lastly - yes you can insert advertisement banners / images to your website. The website is yours!

          Jeremy

          Hi Jake,

Yes you can enable other people (such as your friends) to post articles to your Weebly site. As mentioned in my comment above, you can add them as administrators or authors to your website.

However, I don't think there is a way for you to automatically / intelligently display which articles are the most popular / trending (like what Twitter does). You'll need some sort of custom built algorithm to enable that automatically which is beyond the scope of what Weebly does.

One manual hack you can consider, is reviewing your website visitor stats (such as using Google Analytics or Weebly's built in analytics tool) to see which pages have the highest number of visitors, or which pages attract the longest viewing time (meaning people are actually reading the page).

Once you have that data, you can manually re-arrange your articles to display the most popular ones at the top.

It's a bit of manual work, but achievable.

    Hi Jeremy,
I was looking over Weebly pricing (I'm thinking of upgrading), and it seems Weebly has changed some of their offerings on the free plan. It no longer uses SEO for free plans, and it states upon publishing that your free site "will not be seen in search engines like Google", so you must upgrade (pay) to be seen in search.

Additionally, eCommerce is no longer available for free plans.

This might make other free sites attractive (until they too start eliminating fee features). Any thoughts?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hey Joey,

Thanks for your note. Yes they changed their (free) plan recently and this really guides users to upgrade. We'll be updating our discussions soon.

My own personal opinion is that if a user is serious about a website, he / she should definitely consider upgrading, if anything, at least to be able to connect a custom domain name to the website.

Of course, I understand that not everybody wants to pay for a website especially if the website is "just for fun". In such case, I suppose the website being indexed by search engines or not is not a massive priority (as if it is, then upgrading should probably be a natural thing to do).

Weebly is a business, after all. And supporting a "free" website takes money and resources!

    Hi,
Comcast gave us 1 year of weebly free which expires in September 2016. I'm not sure which plan they gave us though (was it starter pro etc...?). I didn't know that Comcast also offers Weebly. You should take a glance through our discussion about Weebly being hosted on other platforms (instead of using Weebly.com directly). The article talks about using Weebly through Bluehost. But the ideas discussed should apply to Comcast as well.

Can I pay for any of the plans monthly instead of paying the full price right away?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hello Jackson,

For Weebly, the minimum period is 6 months. So you can't exactly pay month to month.

But you can sign up to test them out for free, and there isn't any time limitations to how long you can use them for free.

If you sign up one of their premium plans, you have a 30 day refund window. So that's hopefully enough time for you to test out their premium features.

All you need to start building your Weebly site is a name, an email address, and a password. Account pricing-options include Free, Starter ($8 per month), Pro ($12 per month), and Business ($25 per month). The free account lets you create unlimited pages, but includes Weebly branding and promotions. The Starter plan removes the branding, lets you use your own URL and custom favicon, adds extra site stats, and includes premium support. The Pro account tacks on multimedia features (HD players), site search, and password protection for pages. Business accounts get SSL support and a Web store with unlimited products (including digital downloads) and a custom shopping cart.

We use Weebly services to build all our websites.

Also the new Carbon feature is kick ass too. The third generation of its product which it calls Carbon could be a biggggg big step in a new direction.

My question on the Business website plan is : what are the credit card fees when customer makes purchase ? Do I have to do add on or get it from somewhere else?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Paula,

The payment transaction fees vary from provider to provider. For instance, if you use PayPal to help you process sales (so you can collect money from your customers), they charge you 2.9% of the total purchase + $0.30 per transaction.

Here is a bit more details on the fees.

You, as the merchant, will be responsible for paying this fee and it is automatically deducted by the payment processor. This takes place every single time you go out and purchase something. Let's say you purchase some groceries for $20 and used your credit card. The grocery store will have to pay a small fee to their payment processor.

Hi, thank you for your valuable information!

Is it possible to integrate the stripe checkout function in the weebly starter package?

    Thanks!

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hey Florian,

Yes you can. However, just note that if you are using the Starter package, Weebly will charge another 3% transaction fee on top of the payment processing fee of Stripe.

So to avoid being charged the 3% transaction fee, you'll have to upgrade to Weebly's Business plan.

So if you're just starting out, go with the Starter Plan. But as you start to generate more sales, then consider upgrading to their Business Plan to remove the 3% fee.

Can I transfer a .co.uk website to Weebly?

      Jeremy

      Hi Nicholas,

You don't have to transfer a domain name to Weebly before you can connect the domain name to your website. You can keep the domain name at your domain name registrar (such as GoDaddy) and just connect it to a Weebly site there.

Here are some tutorials from Weebly on how to do that.

      Hi Gerry,

If you are already using Weebly (either their free plan, or any other plans), you can upgrade to their Business plan directly in the Weebly control dashboard (after you log into your Weebly account).

Weebly currently doesn't offer an email service, as their primary focus is to improve and grow their website building tools. What they have done is partner with Google to offer you Google Business Apps, which will enable you to create business email accounts with your own email domain address (instead of having "gmail" as part of your email address).

It's a few dollars per month, but can make your email look a lot more professional with your own domain address.

    Dear Jeremy

We're seeking to upgrade to Weebly business to help our company's growth. How soon can this be done? In addition, we would be seeking the following from the new weebly business site:

An upgraded web site which enables customers to see our products and services and purchase items (DVD etc) from us securely online through this upgraded commerce web site.

Enable us to upgrade (web site) whenever necessary to inform customers about any recent changes, launch campaigns, support new products etc.

Be able to integrate our weebly web site enabling us to organise campaigns to acquire more customers through, Google.com, LinkedIn, social media etc.

Send or receive emails from customers etc.

Would we be able to have a short video (3O minutes) on our weebly business site or link to our weebly web site which can be viewed by prospects through weebly or link (eg Youtube).

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours faithfully

      Jeremy

      Hi Gerry,

Yes you will be able to do some of those with Weebly. Have a look at our Weebly ecommerce discussion here to see what we think of Weebly's ecommerce features.

As for communications with your customers, Weebly doesn't have the ability help you automatically add your customers to an email list so that you can get in touch with them. So you'll have to use a newsletter tool for that, such as Aweber or Mailchimp.

Take a look at IFTT (If This Then That), which is a tool that enables you to achieve an objective if certain things happen. But I haven't seen the ability to add your customers to a newsletter system yet, but hopefully that will happen soon.

Regarding email, Weebly doesn't offer you an in-house email system (which is very common with website builders). The main reason is that they are focused on building a website builder, so they offload the emailing efforts to other email focused services provider, such as Google Business Apps (which enables you to set up a custom email name and have it integrated with Weebly).

If being able to mass email your customers, take a look at Wix. They have a feature called "WixShoutout" which is a newsletter system (built directly in Wix) so you can set up newsletters to send out to your customers.

      Hey Kieron,

With Weebly, you should have the ability to create unlimited pages, even if you are using their free version (without having to upgrade).

If you don't have the ability to do so, do reach out to their customer support team to see why that is the case!

    Jeremy,

I have been using the Weebly free program for a few weeks now and just love it. It was my first ever website building experience and was extremely easy.

My question: does Weebly Pro provide email as well? I didn’t see that in the bullet points for features, nor asked as a question by anyone.

Having email address(es) attached to our website would be extremely important for us.

    Kind regards

      Jeremy

      Hi Terri,

Weebly currently doesn't provivde email services, as their focus is solely on creating a better and easier to use website building platform.

Having said that, they did partner up with Google to deliver email services powered by Google's business apps. This allows you to create your own custom domain email addresses, and you get the reliability and user-friendly interface of Gmail. But, this service will be an additional few dollars per month.

We use Google Business Apps to power our custom email addresses and we really like it. So a few dollars per month is worth it (for us anyway!)

Hi Jeremy. Thank you all the info. I just signed up for the starter plan and still have weebly.com. Do I have to pay extra to have mo domain end with .com and not weebly.com?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hi Ven,

If you want to have your own custom domain name, then you will have to register for one and there is an annual fee for that.

Weebly's domain name register service is a bit more pricey (around $30 per year) than what you can get elsewhere. But the good thing is that you just have to pay for it and it can be connected to your Weebly site very easily since everything is managed by Weebly.

If you purchase a domain name from big domain name registrars such as GoDaddy, the price is about $13 - $15 per year, but you will have to do some configurations to connect the domain name to your website.

Here are some tutorials from Weebly on how to do that.

I recently switched to the starter plan for one year and I thought it was supposed to be monthly but I was charged for the full year. And the domain I have to spend another 33 dollars to register a new one. Am I doing this correctly or did I mess up? How does this work?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hi Chris,

Weebly's billing cycle is 6 months, 1 year or 2 years. So the lowest billing cycle you can have is 6 months.

The advantage of signing up to their 1 year plan is that you get a bigger discount than the 6 month cycle. But if you are more comfortable with just 6 months to start off with, I'm sure they can adjust that for you especially you just signed up recently.

Weebly's domain registry is a bit pricey to be honest. What you can do is register for a domain name at GoDaddy, which is about $13 per year.

      Hope this helps!

      Hi Pratim,

the membership option allows you to create page that only your members can see. So non-members cannot view those pages that you create in your Weebly site.

This is helpful if you want to hide certain pages from the public, and that only people who have signed up to become members of your website can view these pages.

      Hi Troy,

With Weebly's business plans, you can add unlimited products to sell on your website. I'm not sure if that answers your question or not? You mentioned that you are downloading images, where are you downloading them? Is it a Weebly based function that you are using?

In any case, the best way to clarify this is to contact their support team as they can see your account right away. But with the Business plan, you can set up unlimited products to sell in your Weebly site.

Does the Weebly business plan offer 'accept terms and conditions' checkbox before customers can actually access the payment side of the website? So customers have to check the box to accept terms and conditions and then it takes them through to the payment page otherwise the cannot go ahead and make a purchase.

Waqas - I don't think they have that option. I'm not entirely sure if you can get a developer to build that into Weebly either, as their check out system is not open for heavy modifications.

Have you asked Weebly's support team to see if they know of anyone doing this before?

It might also be worth while to check out Shopify (our review) or Bigcommerce (our review) to see if they offer that option. I know what you mean, but it's not a common feature.

Another workaround is to insert a note in the check out cart and say something like "if you purchase this product then you agree to our terms...." and just make sure you have a terms & conditions page set up

    Hi Jeremy

    Thanks for all the updates. Two questions;

    1) Even though I paid up front for the two year plan, am I still expected to pay a monthly allowance?

    Thanks

      Jeremy

      Hi Waqas,

      1) If you paid for the 2 year plan, then you won't have to make monthly payments any more.

      2) With the business plan, you can collect payments using 4 different payment processors (more discussions about Weebly's ecommerce features here). Generally speaking, all of them will accept major credit cards (visa, mastercard, etc). So as long as your customers from Dubai used their credit cards, you can definitely sell products to them with your Weebly site.

I wouldn't recommend removing the footer without upgrading to a paid plan, as that would be a violation to Weebly's Terms of Services. If they discover this, they can disable your website, or even pursue further action against the violator.

To be able to connect your domain name to your Weebly site, you will need to upgrade to at least their Weebly Starter Plan.

      Hi Frank,

Currently you can't charge membership fees, and I think it's a feature that some Weebly users have been requesting, so hopefully they can introduce a solution for that!

      Hi Shirley,

With Weebly, their Business plan does not come with a custom domain name for you, so you will have to purchase that separately.

You can either purchase the domain name through Weebly, or purchase it through domain name registrars such as GoDaddy.

Purchasing through Weebly is a bit more expensive (around $40 per year) whereas through GoDaddy is about $12 - $15 per year (which can save you quite a bit over the life of your website).

      Hope this helps!

    Hi,

I have a few questions... Hope you can answer them! :)

    1. In the "Upgrade Your Site" page, when I choose Pro in "Choose your Plan" and select "1 year ($8.25/month)", the "Payment Details" section tells me a total cost of $99.

Will this be a monthly cost (i.e. paying $99 each month) or a one time cost (i.e. paying a one-time lump sum amount of $99 for the whole period of 1 year)?

    2. Does the total cost of $99 include the price of the domain name or not?

If not, then what would be the total cost WITH the domain name if I choose Pro in "Choose your Plan" and select "1 year ($8.25/mo)"?

    3. In the "Register your Domain" page, selecting the "1-year" package gives me a total cost of $39.95.

Does this mean, that in addition to the Pro Plan package (1 year = $99), another cost will be made of $40 (I'm rounding off 39.95 here), thus giving a total cost of $140?

    4. Again, will this cost be a lump sum amount of per yearly basis?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Cheers!

      Jeremy

      Hi Abe,

Good questions. The short answer to most of your questions is "1 year".

      1) The $99 is for 12 months / 1 year. So that averages to $8.25 per month.

      2) No it does not. You will have to purchase your domain name elsewhere.

      3) You can either purchase the domain name with Weebly (which is pretty expensive at $39.95 per year), or you can purchase one from domain name registrars such as GoDaddy which is around $12 - $15. You can just connect the domain name from GoDaddy to your Weebly site. Here's how to do it.

      4) The $99 is a lump sum for 1 whole year. With GoDaddy, you can purchase a domain name for $12 - $15 for 1 year.

      Hope this helps!

Just one last question (though it might be a noobish question :P ):

I'm thinking of using Weebly as the domain name provider also.
If the lump sum of the Pro package is $99 for 1 year, and the lump sum of the domain name is $40 (if you've decided to use Weebly as the domain name provider), then does that mean that I shall have to pay a lump sum of $140 (again, rounding off here) for the Weebly Pro Package AND Weebly domain name service for a single year?

        Thanks again!

      Jeremy

      Hi Dave,

You have an option to use Weebly through iPage or use Weebly through Weebly.com directly. The pricing for Weebly.com is outlined in our discussion above.

One advantage of using Weebly.com directly is that you get all the most up to date web building tools. With iPage (or any other hosting services that offer Weebly), their version of Weebly is usually a couple of versions behind.

So for instance, I don't think iPage's version of Weebly has the latest ecommerce tools or membership tools. They'll eventually catch up, but definitely lagging behind in platform updates.

Another advantage is that you get support directly from Weebly's support team, versus support from iPage's team. That's good and bad. Support from Weebly's team is preferable if you have any questions directly relating to the website builder. But if you have other questions outside of the website builder, then I think the support team from iPage will be a bit more helpful.

So there are pros and cons to think about for sure!

      Hey Dave,

I'm not too sure if I fully understand what your question is but I'll take a shot at answering it anyway.

With Weebly, there is no space limits so you can upload as much data you want into a website without paying more.

For upgrading, you need to upgrade each website / URL at a time. So if you want Weebly Pro for all 3 of your websites, you need to subscribe to a Weebly Pro plan for each of your website address.

There are no further charges aside from paying for the plan, for using their Editor. But of course you will have to pay for domain names on an annual basis, and if you use their shopping cart there is a 3% transaction fee (but if you are using the Business plan, that fee is waived).

      Hope this helps!

I love the weebly site building tools, however I must add that as the Pro package, I got charged 45 dollars this month. After spending a pretty penny just to build the darn thing. I was completely uninformed that this would be the Monthly price tag... So I would just be careful using this site.

I'm unhappy about this, and am considering stopping using weebly completely. If it's my folly I understand, but from what you said above and from the website it seems like that would NOT be the monthly charge.

    • Kyle

Jess, I am considering a paid plan on Weebly, but your review has me confused. Why did you get charged so much more than you were expecting? Just that you paid for the full year up-front? Or do you expect to be paying that every month??

      • Jeremy
        Jeremy

        Hey Kyle,

I can't speak for Jess, but the way the payment plan works is that it starts with a 6 month minimum, then 1 year and 2 years.

The longer you commit, the cheaper it is on a per month basis. But the thing is that you have to pay a lump sum up front to realize the discount / savings - which is fair enough.

So for instance, if one wants to sign up to the Pro plan for 1 year, he/she will have to pay $99 up front, which breaks down to $8.25 per month. Hope this helps!

        Jeremy

      Jeremy

      Hi Jess,

Yes Weebly does offer you a number of different plans (as per their website and also our discussions throughout this website).

For their paid plans, those are recurring charges so users can continue to use their paid tools on an ongoing basis, as highlighted in our discussions above and also through out all our other discussions regarding Weebly.

Hello Jeremy I am having a problem with the website builder whom i unfortunately choose..
The problem is that their Paypal shopping cart product list photos don't matter what size i make them they are horrible, after almost a month complaining i been told that it is a problem on their end and the programmer have to make "lots of code" until unfortunately there is nothing else they can do... I paid them to design my website including the shopping cart and now i am waiting more
then a month and nothing happen.
My question - and please excuse my ignorance - i don't know if i transfer the site to other website builder like the wix. the shopping cart remain the same as is now, or it will be on a different mode?

      Hi Dora,

Sorry to hear about your experiences with the other service provider.

Regarding Wix, the best way to find out if you are satisfied with their ecommerce tools is to give them a try. I suppose I can highlight some of their features, but you'd have to test them out yourself before making a decision whether to use them (which is a big decision to make!)

To fully test their ecommerce tools, you'd have to sign up to their eCommerce Plans - but you get a 14 day no questions asked refund period, so that pretty much removes the risks from your testing process.

      Hi David,

Which plans you choose depends on if you are going to be using Weebly's ecommerce tools extensively or not. If you are, then perhaps the Business Plan will make more sense.

Regarding templates, it's really up to you to decide on which one fits the branding you want your site to convey. The good thing with weebly is that it allows you to change between templates easily, while not losing any content. So start off with one template and see if you like it. Later if you change your mind, you can always change to another site with just a few clicks!

You can always create a text, image or button and hyperlink to Carfax's website quite easily with Weebly! Just insert your text / image / button, and highlight it and a hyperlinking tool will show up and just insert Carfax's website address.

    Hi,

I am currently running a website hosted on iPage which uses the Weebly drag and drop builder. I can see that on Weebly's platform, the builder is more advanced and has features not available on iPage. If I wanted to transfer my website so that it can be hosted on Weebly's platform, could that be done? Would I lose something from the original site (e.g., domain name)? Can you refer me to what steps I must take in order to do this?

And finally...what would the fees be?

    Thanks,

    W.

      Hi Wilbert,

Yes, Weebly.com has the most updated features and tools, and also if you need support you get access to the Weebly team directly instead of iPage's team.

Currently there isn't an easy way to migrate a site from a Weebly site built in iPage, to Weebly.com. You will have to do that manually and copy the content from one site to another, basically rebuilding your entire site again in Weebly.com

Regarding domain names, you can always just point your domain name to the new site built in Weebly.com. Here are some tutorials directly from Weebly.

My company wants to publish Weebly web pages on a domain we already have. We have an SSL certificate on that domain, so do we still need the Business version of Weebly to have that security?

      Jeremy

      Hi Maureen,

I don't think a website that's built with Weebly can connect with a domain name with a SSL certificate. Though I can't say I"m 100% sure about that so you might want to inquire with their support team directly to confirm this.

For the Weebly Business plan, the SSL certificate is only provided when your customer is on your check out page (insertion of personal and credit card information).

      Hi Kenon,

Unfortunately Weebly doesn't yet. However, they've partnered with Google Apps and you can see how you can use it to connect with your Weebly website.

We use Google Apps email ourselves and don't mind the small monthly fees, as it's reliable and the Gmail interface is pretty easy to use (at least for us!)

What is the pricing for the google apps mail through Weebly? It looks like buying directly from Google is $5/month. However, on the screencaps for the directions to sign up through Weebly it is $3.75/month showing a 10% discount. Is this the current price because of the partnership between Weebly and Google?

          Hi Kelly,

Yes I think so. I think they have some sort of partnership with Google so that's why the price is lower.

I personally use Google Apps to power our email for our businesses and we love it. We get the Gmail interface and the reliability / stability of Google. Just our own opinion!

We are a private summertime swim club and were wondering if there are any swim club themes or lookalikes. We need to do yearly membership renewals and swim team registrations. So, renewals, registrations, babysitter pass, guest pass, tennis key are considered purchases. Does the business pricing plan not charge a transaction fee? I am amazed if it doesn't...just the monthly business pricing plan covers all that??? Most swim clubs charge the added 3% PayPal charge.

      Jeremy

      Hi Cassandra,

The Weebly transaction fee shouldn't be confused with the payment processor fee - it can be a bit confusing so let me try to clarify this!

The Weebly fee is a fee to pay Weebly directly to power your online store. The payment processor fee (such as the PayPal fee you referenced) is to pay the payment processor to process your money transactions.

So both are fees, but for different purposes. So if you have a Business Plan with Weebly, while they do waive the Weebly transaction fee, you still have to pay the payment processor fee.

As for memberships sites, Weebly currently is in Beta testing phase for their own membership features. But I'm not sure when they will be releasing the full functioning version for paid membership programs.

At the mean time, Sentry Login does have membership widget / plugin that does work with Weebly.

Do you pay for Weebly monthly or do you have to pay the $99 for Pro upfront?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hi Terry,

If you pick the Weebly Pro 1 year plan, that's $99 per year (effectively $8.25 per month), you will have to pay the full amount ($99) up front. Paying up front is the main reason why merchants provide bulk discount.

Keep in mind that you have a 30 day money back guarantee period, so if you change your mind you can get your money back.

      Hi Aayman,

Once you stop the paid plans with Weebly, you will automatically be enrolled into the free plan, in which you won't be able to connect your own custom domain to the website. So yes, your domain will be unconnected.

          Hey Jackie,

Weebly used to allow people to use their own domain name a couple of years ago, even with their free plan. This option is no longer available and all new Weebly sites will have to upgrade to their Starter Plan to do this.

But all older Weebly sites still have access to connecting their domain name for free, which is a fair treatment for users who signed up prior to the plan change!

Thanks for the useful article- heres a questions I can't seem to find an answer to. Maybe you can help!

Are the per/year costs at weebly (buying a domain name and upgrading the website) automatically charged again at the end of the year? Or do I have to manually re-subscribe to them. I would actually pefer to do it manually because I dont like automatic charges to my account.

On a similar note: how easy is it, if say I am unhappy with the services at the end of the year, to terminate my domain name and downgrade back to a free subscription?

    Thanks in advance,

      Hi Eric,

Yes I believe you can set the plans to auto charge or manual charge. It's up to you.

Just don't forget to renew it! If you forget to renew your plan, you won't lose your website. Instead all the tools available to you while you were upgraded won't be available to you.

As for downgrades - yes you can do that any time and still retain your website. You just won't have access to any of the tools that come with the upgrade any more.

      Hope this helps!

I would assume that your account will be auto-billed on the credit card that you used? You can log into your account to check if this is the case.

    Hi,
Weebly, in its website, said that Weebly could even be used in your own host.
Maybe like when I sign-up and install Weebly inside my Hostgator Cpanel. Will the pricing
be still the $25/month for business plan or it'll be lower for using my own host eg, Hostgator?
Would Weebly even owns our website just like Blogger, com. Thanks. Winda

      Jeremy

      Hi Winda,

If you use Weebly within Hostgator, the pricing under Hostgator and the features that they offer you will be a bit different from what you get from Weebly.com.

I'd encourage you to log into your Weebly platform within Hostgator, and check out their pricing and the features they have to offer, then compare that against Weebly.com (basically what we discussed in this article).

Some differences include the version of Weebly within Hostgator may limit the number of pages you can create, or that you can't access the codes of the template to make modifications or import external templates, unless you upgrade to their higher paid plan. Whereas with Weebly.com, you get to build unlimited pages and can edit the website's codes even with their free plan.

So there is quite a bit of difference in what they both offer you.

You can also check out our discussion here about Weebly offered through Bluehost, which will give you some sort of idea about some of the differences to watch out for.

As for website ownership, you own your own content. And Weebly allows you to export your website and take your content with you if you ever decide to leave.

Hello, I am designing a website for a small company and upgraded to the business plan $29/month. I already published the website and paid to host the domain. At the end of the month, will my site be taken down? Is the $39 to host the domain a per month payment and if I don't pay $29 next month will my site no longer exist?

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hi Lucy,

If you are paying the monthly plan for the Weebly Business Plan ($29/month), and suddenly you stop paying, your website will not disappear. It will just be downgraded to the "Free" plan and you won't have access to some of the advanced tools that you had when you were paying for the Business Plan.

You might want to sign up for the 1 year plan to save money if you are planning on running an ecommerce site (or even 2 years to save even more). Keep in mind that Weebly has a 30 day money back guarantee.

Plus, before you upgrade to any paid plans, you can always test their free plan to see if Weebly is the right website builder for you!

      Jeremy

Generally speaking, you need to have a domain name so that your website has an address (so people can type that into a browser to find your site). To get your own domain, you have to register for one, and pay an annual fee so that you can keep using the domain name. The cost for a domain name is generally from $10 - $14 per year. You can find a lot of them available for you to register at GoDaddy.

As for upgrading your site (I'm assuming you are speaking in context of the paid plans offered by Weebly), you just get access to more tools from Weebly as per our discussion above.

So upgrading to a Weebly premium plan, and registering for your own domain name are 2 independent events, but both are important for you to build your own website.

      Hope this helps!

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your review and the pricing structure for Weebly. After reading this article I went ahead and built a website on Weebly to release my book and it has come together nicely.

However, I've now come to the point of adding the store to sell the book I have written and self-published....I'm in the UK and so Paypal is the only option for customers to pay for the product.

I have just been advised by Weebly as I tried to set up the ecommerce part of the website that to use the option of Paypal I will need to upgrade to the Business plan - the most expensive one.

This is unfortunate as I currently have only one product (book) to sell and it is low priced, and so this is likely to price me out. Weebly chat did say there is the option of adding Paypal button to my website so I will look into this.

I just thought I'd mention that it is worth noting that users reading outside of North America will need to upgrade to the Business plan to use Paypal for Weebly ecommerce.

I do hope this is something Weebly developers can look at to make the Weebly pricing level Worldwide. That would be great.

    Best wishes.

      Hi Zoe,

Thanks for sharing this. Is your product an ebook that is delivered digitally? If so, then yes you will need to upgrade to the Business plan in order to sell digital products.

One alternative is to use Ecwid, or even e-Junkie. Both will work with Weebly and allow you to sell digital products at a lower price point than upgrading to Weebly's Business Plan. Both will integrate with PayPal (and may other transaction processors).

Of course, the drawback is that you won't get the nicely integrated ecommerce features that Weebly offers, but you do get a bit more flexibility as Ecwid (specifically) has a lot of ecommerce features that Weebly don't offer (yet).

      Hope this helps!

      Hi Gethin,

For Weebly, you will have to purchase your own domain name (such as from GoDaddy).

But if you subscribe to premium plans with a few other website builders (such as Squarespace or Wix), they do give you a free domain name.

You can check out our comparison chart here which will show you which website builder includes a free domain name for each subscriber.

I'm a freelance marketing communications and PR writer, editor, yadda-yadda. I built my website in iWeb years ago. When Apple stopped supporting iWeb and the links to my video samples stopped working -- different reason -- I paid someone to recreate my site in WordPress - It hasn't been a good experience. I built a free website in Weebly for some legislation I'm working on through bluehost, my service. It was easy but limited. But now I'm considering Weebly Pro OR Rage Software EverWeb, which I think is $79 once. I must say that your reviews of Weebly are wonderfully helpful and I'm almost ready to commit. However, if you have any information or opinion about EverWeb, I'd appreciate hearing from you. ALSO, I can build my site in Weebly Pro through bluehost rather than Weebly. Any thoughts?

Hi Jeremy - thanks for the helpful review. I took over a partially-started Weebly site at my job so I didn't get much choice in the matter of which web builder, but this is reassuring that my predecessor who started the site made a good choice! And it's great to know that I can export the site if need be - it's a species identification website with has over 300 pages and counting, so starting from scratch if it needs to be moved would be terrible. I have a couple of questions for you, though:

    1) Are you aware of any page limit? So far that hasn't been an issue but I'd like to figure out if there is sooner rather than later.

    2) Is there a danger, with Weebly or with any other web builder, of loosing a site? It's not like it's something I can back up on my own - and since backing up work has become second nature for everything else computer-wise it's a bit nerve-wracking to not be able to back up something that I've been working on for months!

    Thanks!

      Hi Kelly,

Thanks for your feedback! Here are my thoughts to your questions:

      1) There is no page limit at the moment.

      2) I think there is always some degree of risk if you use a hosted solution such as Weebly to host and build your website. But you can always make it a weekly habit (or as frequent as you wish) to export your site to back it up.

Also, I believe that Weebly backs up their customers' websites on a very frequent basis (if not daily). So anything ever happens, I'm sure you can ask them to recover your site. I've heard from a few users that have been able to do this through Weebly support.

    Hi Jeremy,

I'm amazed at how fast Weebly is. I've created 14 very usable pages in less than 2 days on my free account.

I use Constant Contact for my newsletters and all of the images on my newsletter are on my hosted domain at http//www.(domain name).com/Images. Does my hosted account stay with my current provider? If I apply my domain to a Weebly Pro account will I loose all of the images that are there now? Can I migrate all of those images over to Weebly? How do I FTP images that won't be used on the webpages up to the Weebly account for use on my newsletter? Will the location remain the same - http//www.(domain name).com/Images?

    Thanks very much.

    • Jeremy
      Jeremy

      Hey JMC,

That's a great question. If you move your domain name, then your images that used that domain name that's stored elsewhere will no longer be valid.

So you will have to move the images to elsewhere. Either you can upload them into Weebly (they have on FTP so it can be a bit time consuming if you have a lot of images), or you can just get a new domain name and use that domain name and your hosting account to store the images. Obviously this will cost you a little bit more money, but can be convenient and save you time.

One thing you can try (which I haven't before, but curious) is to store your images on Dropbox (free). I wonder if you can create a URL that goes directly to the image, then insert that link into your constant contact email message?

    HI,
I have an email with another provider and just purchased Weebly PRO; I want to move that email over to Weebly, how do I do that? Is email included with Weebly PRO? I can't seem to find that answer...

    Thank you.

      Jeremy

      Hi JG,

If you already have an email with your own custom domain up and running, you just have to insert that email into the contact form settings within Weebly Editor and all the messages your visitors leave you through the contact form should be routed to your email address automatically.

The only thing you should make sure is that your Weebly website domain name matches your email domain address. They don't have to be, but it's just a preferred practice so that when people get your email, it's consistent with the website address.

I've been a Weebly user since 2006 - started as a free user then upgraded to Pro after about 6 months. I've been recommending and designing websites for small business owners using Weebly ever since.

Quick question; now that Weebly has three price points, can one go from the Free account to the paid Starter account and then later upgrade to Pro if they discover they really need more of the premium features? I have someone who is undecided between the Starter and Pro upgrade (they're not sure if they'll need/want the addition features Pro has vs Starter).

Hi Jeremy. You helped me the other day. Now I'd like to mention a few things about Weebly.

Weebly is, entirely user friendly. For those who are extremely savvy, techy types. Using Weebly is by far the best introduction to building a website, effortlessly. One feels they are quite the 'geek' as they've made it so enjoyable to use.

The Support staff are quick responders. Very friendly and most accommodating.

I found a small restriction in the program which I wrote to you about. Unfortunately, due to the type of website I wish to build and its capabilities, I have to move my site. That said, I do hope in time they address this area. I'd return in a heartbeat! Nevertheless, not everyone needs what I do. I didn't know enough about building before I set out. Found along the way what I'd ultimately, require. Still, I highly, highly (!!) recommend Weebly, to any new to web building individual. Even for those more tech savvy, I'm certain it would cut your building time down to nearly zero. It is, that good.

Thank you again for your response the other day, Jeremy. You're very eager to help. The tone comes though even in text. Though it didn't pan out for me, I was delighted with every aspect of Weebly.

Best wishes to new builders. I know you'll love Weebly!

There has been times when the servers go down for a very short while and this happens to every single hosting service - no such thing as 100% uptime!

Hi, firstly, thanks for the excellent reviews. It is helping me understand what is possible! I was told by a web designer that Weebly charge extra to make alterations/edits to your website, but nothing I have read so far (either on your site or on Weebly) suggest that! Please can you confirm that once I've built and published my Weebly website, I won't have extra charges for updating pages etc? I will be using their paid service as I want to use my own domain name.

      Hey Alex,

With Weebly, if you sign up to their premium plans, you will only be billed on a monthly or annual basis (depending which option you choose). Once you make those payments, you can make as many changes as you wish without having to pay any more.

If you want to change your site to WordPress down the road, you will need to build your WP site from scratch, as Weebly currently doesn't have any migration functions to WP. BUt then again, maybe they will in the future!

      - Jeremy

      • Damien Wilson

The fact you can't migrate your site provides a HUGE problem for anyone serious about their website.

It's true that too much of an architectural change to website code can easily leave your SEM efforts lost in the move. There are ways to reduce a lose in search rankings but for those with little budget it's not worth thinking about.

If you're a business, go with WordPress and don't risk a using software that can't scale - WordPress is inexpensive to begin with and very easy to improve as your business grows.

      Hey Kevin,

Thanks! I think Weebly is here to stay and is one of the most user friendly website builders available in the market today. They're backed by some of the same investment fund that funded the likes of Google, YouTube, Dropbox, AirBnb, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Yahoo, etc. So they are well capitalized and are one of the fastest growing website builders today. So I think they are a solid long term investment to host your website. Hope this helps!

If I have an account and have multiple websites under that account, will upgrading to Pro cover all of those websites or do I have to upgrade to Pro for every website? Thanks!

      Hi Rob,

As of around mid-2013, for Weebly websites, you have to upgrade them 1 website at a time. So if you have 5 websites, and you want all of them to be Weebly Pro, you need to upgrade EACH website.

      Hope this answers your question!

Well, if i'm not mistaken, part of the weebly pro feature is when you upgrade to pro, all ten sites will have the same pro features.

        Hi Kat,

That used to be the case a while back. But Weebly has updated its offering so upgrading to Pro is on a per website basis.

But if you upgraded to Pro prior to the Weebly offering update, you would have been grandfathered into the old structure, thereby retaining the "Pro" status for all 10 of your websites. But this isn't the case any more.

      Hi Rob,

Weebly's upgrades are on a per website basis. So if you sign up for Pro, you have to sign up on a per website basis, and NOT on a per account basis.

I'm glad I read this far! This is so important that it should be easier to find! That said - my question now is, I currently have 2 free websites; I really don't need the upgrades on either one. But I am interested in creating a third website through Weebly. Can I keep the two free ones and purchase a Starter website for making the third one? And how would I do that?

          Hey Sally,

Yes you can. Just create a new website within your Weebly account (Weebly allows you to create up to 10 sites per account), then upgrade your new website while leaving your other 2 existing sites as "free".

With Weebly, you have to upgrade one website at a time. So you can pick and choose which site to upgrade or not.

          Hope this helps you out!

        Hi,

What happens if you sign-up for pro/business from the start? I remember reading you have up to 10 sites included but wanted to know if that's the case.

    Hi,
i was thinking about upgrading to weebly business, as we need an unlimited amount of products for a proper online store. I was wondering do they ask you at the end of your plan if you want to continue or not?
I also wanted to know, if you don't continue with the plan does that mean your entire website goes back to the basic weebly settings or does it still stay the same?

    Thank you

      Hi Jacinda,

I think they ask the question to see if you want to renew the plan. So for instance if you are using the Weebly Business Plan, and you choose not to continue, then you will drop back down to the free plan once your Business Plan expires. So you will have to continue to subscribe to their plan if you want to maintain your Business Plan features.

One thing to consider if you have a lot of products, is that any plans below Weebly Business Plan only allows a limited number of products. So I'm not entirely sure what will happen if you don't keep your Business plan. Probably want to clarify this with Weebly just to be sure.

let me know what they say as I would be curious as to what happens as well.

I have the weebly site builder but my site/domain is registered with fatcow and when I click to upgrade to weebly pro the price is far higher, is there a way round this?

    Thanks Jimmy.

      Hi Jimmy,

I think the Weebly website builder offered through Fatcow is different than using Weebly through Weebly themselves. The version that Fatcow offers is currently an outdated version of Weebly, though it is still a very capable website builder.

The prices that we reviewed above in the article is based on Weebly Pro's package if you use the website builder directly through Weebly (see our review here - https://www.websitebuilderexpert.com/website-builders/weebly/weebly-review/).

I think this is why Fatcow's "Pro" package is priced differently from Weebly's Pro package.

I think I understand the difference between Pro and Starter. What other charges are there? Do you host websites? What are all the charges for that.

I need a full budget to make a proposal to my group. They are unforgiving when it comes to hidden charges, so please help me out.

    Thanks for you help.

      Hi Susan,

Weebly provides free hosting for you so you don't have to manage hosting yourself (which is nice). Hosting is included in all their paid packages, and also their free package.

I think some costs you should consider include domain name registration fee, email services (if you want to use your domain name as your email), and any other online related services you may need to use. But generally speaking, domain name and email are the two main items people need to run a website (this is in addition to signing up for a premium package with Weebly of course).

So where would one get email for a weebly starter package?

          Hi Michael,

I believe that Weebly has a deal with Google Business Apps where you can get a bit of a discount if you use Google's email services (they allow you to get get your own custom email address while also using the Gmail interface).

But this is something you have to pay on the side in addition to the Weebly package.

An alternative is to use Microsoft's custom domain service, which is free.
