Wix templates are beautiful.  We don’t know what it is, but every time we look at them, the words that come into our minds include “professional”, “stylish”, or “polished”.

There are a lot of website builders out there, each with their strengths and weaknesses.

Although most of them do a pretty good job in allowing non-techies to build websites (without having to learn codes), a lot of them really feel incomplete in that the templates that they offer you just aren’t professional enough.

Sure, you can populate the website with content – almost anyone can add pictures and text.

But the magic is really in the design and this is where Wix templates really shine.

Their design templates are updated to the latest design trends and help give your website visitors’ an impression that you’ve had your website designed professionally.

Further, Wix is always adding new designs to their template collection which is something we really like. This is something that Wix’s competitors are not doing.

Sure some of their templates are decent looking, but they usually introduce new templates only once or twice a year (Wix creates new templates multiple times a year).

This goes to show you that Wix is a progressive and innovative website builder, and that’s why we think quite highly of them.

You can see our full review of Wix here.

Over 510 Wix Templates for Free

It really doesn’t matter what type of website you are building, there are Wix templates for you.

With over 510 premium templates, Wix’s templates are uniquely designed for businesses, online shops, music, restaurants, hospitality, photography, portfolio, retail, fashion, creative, etc.

Wix goes even further and categorizes their templates into over 70 sub-industries.  They understand that not all business templates are applicable to all businesses.

After all, a website design for a lawyer should be different from a design for a plumber.  A website for a music rock band should be different from a website design for classical musicians.  A wedding photographer’s website should be different than a traveling photographer’s website.

They categorize their templates so this makes it easy for you to find a template that’s relevant to the type of website that you are building.

We found this function very helpful, especially being able to see what other Wix users are doing with their website design.

Let’s face it, it’s challenging to design a website from scratch.  So being able to get inspired by looking at other people’s websites, and knowing which Wix templates they are using, will be very helpful to get you started.

Wix Templates Overview Video

HTML5 Templates

Wix templates are HTML5-based templates, so they are using the most up-to-date codes to ensure that the designs are more SEO friendly and that they are also compatible with mobile devices (such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods).

This helps ensure that you are providing the best experiences for your visitors when they land on your website.   The last thing you want  is that your visitors see your website differently than how you are viewing it.  This is why Wix is a good website builder choice, as their templates are not only stylish and professional but also created using the latest technology.

Review Conclusion

If you want a great looking, stylish website design, Wix is definitely one of the strongest website builders available in the market today.  Wix templates are contemporary, professional, and can make your website look good.

Hi Jeremy: I searched through all your explanations BUT did not find what I was looking for!

I plan to build a simple website: it will have many photos and about 8 short demonstration videos.

I need to know what website designers offer this service. I looked at GoDaddy, Wix.

Don’t need the “pre-planned” templates they offer. I can make a simple page.

ESSENTIAL that the builder offers me the ability to drop in the videos! WILL not use links!

      Hello Norma,

Wix actually offers you a blank template if you want build / design your website from the grounds up. So while they offer you hundreds of pre-populated designs (which you can alter however you want to), you can also start with a blank canvas.

As for videos, you can use Wix’s video element to insert videos into your webpages. So you’re not inserting links, but inserting video players that will play your videos into your website.

    Hi Jeremy:

Your Website Builder info is exceptional – THANK YOU!

Question – I already have a HEADER that was designed for me – I’d like to use it.

If I choose an “ready-made” Template with Wix, can I insert my own Header at the top?

Or, would I need to start with a “Blank Template” to do that?

And if so – is it a lot more difficult – using a Blank Template?

    Many thanks!

    Sincerely / Peter A. / Canada

      Hello Peter,

Thanks for the compliment and glad you’re finding our discussions helpful!

You can definitely insert your own header at the top of Wix’s pre-made templates. They make it easy for you to insert as you don’t have to know any code.

So you don’t have to start with a blank template. Blank templates are helpful for those who have very specific designs in mind and allows them to create that from scratch. For those who don’t have specific, exact design layouts in mind, using a pre-populated template gives you a head start. And, you can just click into any part of the template to customize.

      Hope this helps!

Jeremy, many thanks for your swift response!

Sorry … I might have been slightly confused when I asked my question.

I see now that Wix describes a HEADER the same way I would label it a NAVIGATION BAR (the section where the different TABS are located, such as: Home, Blog, About Me, etc … usually at the very top of the Website, and/or at the bottom).

I guess I should have said I have a pre-built, large horizontal [rectangular] BANNER (a 900 pixil wide colored image, with two beach chairs on it) that I would prefer to use on my site … likely right below the Header.

Having clarified this … should I be able to insert my own Banner into one of the [pre-made] Wix Templates … right under the Header … without having to use one of the Blank Templates (which is certainly my preference)?

And IF I am able to use a pre-made Wix Template (-vs- a Blank Template) … would I need to look for one that already “has” a design similar to what I envision for mine (with a long horizontal Banner, or Image in it) … and IF so, do you know if such a ‘space’ – where I would insert it – would be flexible (could it by “stretched” or “shortened” if needed, to accomodate my Banner size Ok)?

Your answer to my concerns … and/or comments … will determine if I should “start out” with a PRE-MADE Template – or with a BLANK Template … so that I won’t later need to start all over again. I looked through many, many of the Q&As on the Wix Website, but I could not find the specific answer(s) to these questions.

Hope this clarifies … I greatly appreciate your help on this (as I’m sure you have a busy schedule!) … THANK YOU!

        Sincerely / Peter A. / Canada

          Hi Peter,

I see. I usually refer to the navigation bar as the menu bar. Glad we cleared that up.

I would suggest looking for a template design that is similar to what you’re looking for to get started. I’m not entirely sure if they have one but it’s worth investing some time to look for one. This will help reduce work in modifying the design.

The best way forward is to test the template to see if it suits your needs. Play around with it to see what it can or cannot do. Keep in mind that it’s all part of your investment into building a website that suits what you need. By familiarizing yourself with the process, it will only make future edits easier and more efficient.

          Good luck!

          Jeremy

            Jeremy … you are amazing!

Your Website Builder reviews, comparisons & tips are comprehensive, and most helpful.

But equally valuable are your detailed answers to viewer questions, because they are always so quick … thoughtful … right on point … THANK YOU.

I now have exactly the info I need to proceed … greatly appreciated.

            Sincerely / Peter A. / Canada

    Hi, Jeremy –

I work in video production. I’m looking for a website builder that will allow me to place fairly large dimension videos at the head of each page without hosting the media YouTube or Vimeo. I just don’t care to see their navigation on my site. I just want the traditional play button.

    Thanks.

    Jim

      Hey Jim,

Take a look at our discussion on how to use video backgrounds here.

I believe Wix allow you to upload Quicktime, AVI or MP4 file formats and they have some good video background templates that you can check out.

I agree with your article 100% — the Wix templates are beautiful. As a web designer (freelance) I don’t have the time to design a site from scratch.

I have been unable to find this out though — I did ask Wix support — can I purchase a Wix template , customize it, and host the site elsewhere?

I have not utilized any of the free templates (yet).

    Thanks

      Hey Pam,

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, Wix’s templates are not for sale, nor can you export it out of their platform and use it elsewhere.

Have you thought about using Wix to build websites for your clients?

    Hi Jeremy,

    Great stuff. Thank you.

I have a few questions below:
    1. May I insert third party Survey Monkey App link to my wix website, or need to use wix built-in polls only?
    2. Can I put up Ad-Banner and Links on my wix website? It may be my sole source of income on web.
    3. May I know which template is good for forum, subsription and club membership at WIX?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Eddie

      Hi Eddie,

      1) I think they have a couple of other survey apps you can add to your Wix site, if you visit their App Market. So those are one click

installations. I’m not 100% sure if Survey Monkey works well with Wix, but you might want to ask Survey Monkey’s support team directly. I’m assuming it’s just embedding some codes into

your Wix site, and the way to do that is to use Wix’s HTML App (which allows you to insert external widget codes into the website).

One huge advantage of using one of the survey apps in Wix’s App Market is that they are all configured to work perfectly in Wix, and the installation process is literally just a click.

      2) Yes you can.

      3) I’m not entirely sure as it really depends on which design you like the best. All of Wix’s templates allow you to drag and drop elements anywhere on the page, so it’s really flexible.

So I’d suggest you find the design that you like the best and start from there!

      Hope this helps.

Thanks for your helpful articles. I’m evaluating Website Builders and Wix looks pretty interesting. And I agree, most of the templates do look very professional. I have a question about some specific template functionality (or how I might be able to do this). One of the businesses I run provides training classes and I want to have the ability to manage class registrations within the website. So, I’d like users to see a list of upcoming classes and whether there are spaces available and allow users to register & pay for classes directly on the site. Do you know if any of the Wix templates provide anything like this? If not, are there any external apps that might provide something like this? Appreciate any help.

      Hi Chris,

Wix’s App Market does have a free plugin where you can create a membership gateway so that only registered users can access certain parts of your website. We went over their App Market in this article here. When you visit their App Market, just type in “Member” and you will see the App.

However, I haven’t seen a way to create updates on class availability with some of Wix’s tools. I’d love to know if they have something in their App Market that can handle this.
