Our 2025 website builder research highlighted Wix as the best all-in-one solution for building, so it’s no surprise that it also has outstanding blogging tools. Still, after using WIx myself, I know it can be a little overwhelming to master.

I’ve got you covered. My Wix blogging platform review shows you how to start a blog with Wix, covering all-important considerations, such as AI writing tools, blog design features, and monetization opportunities.

How Much Does Starting a Wix Blog Cost?

Wix has a free-forever plan which allows you to start a blog without paying a penny. The free plan is a great way to test out Wix’s blogging platform and comes with plenty of SEO, blog management, and analytics for successful blogging.

However, there are notable limitations of the free plan to be aware of:

  • 500MB of storage and 1GB of bandwidth
  • Wix domain name
  • Wix ads on your site

🤔Should I blog on Wix’s free plan?

Wix’s free plan is good for personal blogs, but if you’re trying to build trust and brand awareness, I recommend upgrading to the Light plan. This removes ads, upgrades your storage, gives you marketing tools to grow your blog, and lets you connect a custom domain to your site.

If you choose to upgrade, Wix’s pricing plans range from $17 to $159 per month, when billed annually. The $17-per-month Light plan is ideal for most blogs. However, if you want to accept donations or link to products you’re selling in your blog posts, you’ll need the $29-per-month Core plan.

Where Can You Find Wix's Blogging Platform?

To access Wix’s blogging platform, you’ll need the Wix Blog app. While some blogging templates automatically install this app to your site, you can manually download from within the editor of any template.

To download Wix Blog, select the “Add Apps” icon from the left sidebar. Type “Wix Blog” into the search bar and hit install.

Once you have the app installed, enter your blog page from within Wix’s editor by selecting “Pages” from the left sidebar and navigating to “Blog Pages.”

How To Design Your Wix Blog

I completed my initial Wix setup with the help of its AI website builder. After asking important questions – such as my blog’s name, the type of content I’ll share, and my blog’s unique selling point – I was taken to a blog setup checklist, which gave me two options to design my site:

#1. Generate a Design with AI

Wix’s AI website builder opens up an AI chatbot which generates a site brief and a website preview based on the information that I inputted during signup.

If I wasn’t happy with the design, I could tweak the site structure, design, theme, and layout details of the brief and regenerate.

#2. Pick a Template

Alternatively, you can select from one of Wix’s 900 templates. After selecting this route, I was pleased that Wix had used my signup information to recommend templates fit for my fashion blog.

If the recommendations don’t take your fancy, Wix has a “Blog” tab at the top of its template library, where you can filter by blog types such as “Personal,” “News and Business,” “Food and Travel,” and “Sports and Wellness.” At my time of writing, there are 143 unique blogging templates to choose from, so you’re sure to find something you like.

Editing Your Blog Page

Once you’re happy with your initial template, head into Wix’s editor to personalize it. While I could talk in depth about building a website with Wix, I’m going to focus on design elements in the blog pages for this article.

The blog design controls are easily found by clicking anywhere on the page and selecting the white settings button.

Wix gave me more control over the look and feel of my blog page than any other website builder I’ve tested. I could edit:

  • The display: What shows on my post previews, such as author name, publish date, reading time, social sharing buttons, and various engagement metrics.
  • The layout: How you want your post previews to be presented on the blog page. For example, I could show a single column, a grid of header images, or entire posts.
  • The design: Change the colors and fonts of different elements, such as buttons and ratings. I could control my main post feed and any category feeds created.

Creating Individual Blog Posts

In the blog post editor, you’ll have standard text formatting controls, such as adding links, headings, indenting the page, changing font size and color, and adding bullet points and numbered lists.

I was a little frustrated that I couldn’t change the background color of my individual blog posts in the editor like I could with Squarespace.

Does Wix Help You Write Blog Content?

If you’re not a wordsmith, don’t worry – Wix has plenty of AI tools to help you build your business blog.

Planning Topics and Outlines

Wix’s AI Topic Assistant helped me brainstorm initial ideas for what to blog about. It asked what my blog is about, who I’m writing for, and what I want them to take away from my posts, and then provided five titles.

I was really impressed with how well these topics aligned with my handmade fashion brand and overall blog goals. After hitting “Get more ideas” a few times, I quickly had “Customer Stories” and “Meet the Maker” monthly segments, as well as valuable tips and informational guides.

If you need help expanding these blog title examples into a first draft, Wix’s AI Outline Creator is a great way to get the creative juices flowing. Opening the tool, I could choose to write on a topic or a specific product in my inventory. I could tweak the:

  • Word count range
  • Post type
  • Point of view
  • Target audience
I could tweak my preference settings and regenerate outlines until I was happy. Source: Website Builder Expert

Writing Entire Posts

Wix also has an AI Post Creator, which can write entire first drafts. Again, you can create a post about a topic or a product, then provide an AI prompt to explain the article you want to post.

You also have control over:

  • The type of blog post you want to write
  • The point of view it’s written in
  • The target audience
  • SEO keywords to include in the writing

One of my top AI content creation tips is to never publish AI content without proofreading and personalizing. Since AI makes mistakes, you should only use Wix’s AI Post Creator to create a first draft, not a finished product.

Grammar Support

Even if you decide to plan and write the post without AI, Wix’s Content AI tool can help strengthen your writing. When you highlight specific parts of your copy, the blue Content AI icon will appear and give you the option to:

  • Rephrase sentences, paragraphs, or single words
  • Adjust the length of the selected text
  • Provide grammar suggestions
  • Change the tone of voice

If you had something else in mind, there’s also the option to tweak the selected text with a prompt, which worked perfectly when I used it to change my article to first-person.

Creating Media

Pictures can bring a blog post to life. If you don’t have the time or equipment to take professional shots, Wix’s AI Image Creator is a great alternative.

When testing the tool, it was able to generate an image in seconds. I was shocked by the photorealistic quality, especially from such a short prompt.

How To Monetize Your Wix Blog

Our 2025 website builder research found Wix to be the best blogging platform for monetization due to the sheer number of opportunities available. You can easily add monetized elements into your blog posts as you write them by clicking the small blue “+” button that appears when empty space is selected.

If you’ve written an informational guide to a specific product or service, you can add widgets that let users book or purchase without even leaving your blog post. Or, add display ads to certain parts of your article with Google AdSense. I loved that I could control where my ads would appear and their exact dimensions.

From here, I could also add media, polls, columns, and other formatting options. Source: Website Builder Expert

How Else Can I Monetize My Wix Blog?

You can overview Wix’s blog monetization tools from its dedicated monetization tab, found in the “Blog” tab of your dashboard. On top of what I’ve already covered, you can make money blogging by:

  • Locking your blog, or parts of it, behind a subscription plan
  • Creating forms to request donations and purchases
  • Promoting paid programs on your blog

Tips for a Great Wix Blog

While Wix’s blogging platform has plenty of features to set you up for success, there are a few tips that will help you make the most of its features:

  • Promote your blog posts: Not promoting your new posts is a common blogging mistake. Wix allows you to send automated emails and create social media posts to boost your visibility from the get-go.
  • Place monetized elements cautiously: While it can be tempting to place as many as possible, always consider the user experience, and only add relevant product links. For display ads, I’d avoid adding more than two per article.
  • Download the Wix app: Wix’s mobile app lets you write content and manage your blog from your cell phone, which encourages you to write more content.
  • Regularly monitor your Wix blog analytics: Find out which posts your audience prefers by keeping track of key performance metrics, such as views, engagement, and reading time.
  • Integrate Google Search Console: Linking your blog to Google Search Console will tell you which blog posts are performing best on Google and help you optimize your other posts for maximum visibility.

Summary

Wix’s blogging platform is a great choice for all types of blogs, whether for personal or business use. With SEO-friendly AI writing tools, robust marketing features, and blog-specific analytics, you’re all set with the tools needed to create, manage, and grow your audience.
