If art or design is your specialty, or you’re looking for pristine portfolio templates to impress your clients, I recommend Squarespace. In 2025, we crowned it our best portfolio website builder. It offers an easy way to create a modern portfolio that reflects your unique design philosophy.
The platform has over 180 templates to choose from that are split into key categories. For example, you can choose from 31 “art and design” templates, or 21 “personal and CV” templates to get started – all ideal for your portfolio!

Key Squarespace Portfolio Features
When I constructed a portfolio website with Squarespace, these are the most helpful tools I came across:
- Squarespace Blueprint AI – You can follow its five-step onboarding process to create a custom template that has a consistent font, color palette, and tone of voice.
- Unlimited storage – Squarespace’s three plans all come with unlimited storage, alongside an allowance of 30 minutes of video.
- Acuity Scheduling – I could use its built-in Acuity Scheduling tool to set up bookings, though it does come with additional costs starting from $16 per month (billed annually).

What’s It Like To Set Up With Squarespace?
I was impressed by Squarespace’s sleek interface when testing out the platform myself. Its drag-and-drop editor was easy to use, letting me add new design elements to my portfolio and arranging them however I wanted to.
I also found it impossible to create an unattractive design, since the builder’s gray grid overlay kept everything in alignment.

What Should I Watch Out for With Squarespace?
Squarespace’s storage space for content is also a double-edged sword. Though Squarespace portfolios are aesthetically pleasing, they are prone to slower website load times. When we tested the website speeds of different builders, Squarespace websites (on desktop and website view) had significantly slower load times than competitors like Wix and Hostinger.
If you find that off-putting, I’d recommend a speedier alternative like Hostinger instead, especially if you want to upload a lot of content to your portfolio.
⏰ 1-Minute Recommendation: Should You Use Squarespace?
- Businesses, agencies, or freelancers in art and design fields
- Design-conscious users who want the best templates and customization tools on the market
- Users who want to make use of Squarespace’s built-in booking tool: Acuity Scheduling
2. Wix: For Business Portfolios
- 💰 Wix pricing: $17-$159 per month (billed annually)
- 🤖 AI portfolio website builder: Yes
- 💻 Read our full Wix review for additional details
Wix
For business portfolios
- 2000+ templates on offer
- Very intuitive to use
- Generous free plan
Free plan available
Paid Plans: $17 - $159 / month
Pros
-
Most website features
-
Templates for a wide range of industries
-
Drag-and-drop editor
Cons
-
Storage caps on all plans
-
Can't switch templates once site is live
-
Expensive premium plans
Though Wix has fallen to second place in our rankings, the platform still holds up. I recommend it for business portfolios, since it comes with the widest range of website features on the market, enabling you to add additional functionality to your portfolio page. I could use its marketing tools to promote my website, or add an online store page to sell products.

Key Wix Portfolio Features
Once you have the Wix Portfolio app active on your website, you have access to the following features:
- Portfolio tab – It asked me about the type of work I wanted to showcase, had me upload my initial images, and then generated relevant project titles and descriptions.
- Project collections – I could arrange my portfolio projects into different creations. This is useful if you’ve worked on multiple projects for one client, or want to showcase your work from different creative mediums.
- App integrations – I was able to sync my Wix Portfolio with apps like Instagram and Google Photos.
- Portfolio templates – Wix offers over 2,000 free templates, with 282 of these falling under the portfolio & CV category.

What’s It Like To Set Up With Wix?
Because I’d chosen a portfolio-specific template, my website automatically came with the free Wix Portfolio app installed that I could access from the editor – you need this specific app if you want to build your portfolio. If your website doesn’t have this app installed, head to the Wix App Market and download it from there.
Wix’s portfolio features will also be included if you use Wix’s AI website builder, since the chatbot builds your site based on your needs.

Similarly to Squarespace, Wix also has a drag-and-drop editor with many design options available. I could drag design elements onto the page, like contact forms and client testimonials, or AI generate imagery and copy to complement my portfolio’s design.

💡 Other useful Wix tools
Because Wix has the biggest number of website features, your business may need these tools to take your portfolio to another level:- Marketing – To promote your work and reach a wider audience, you can use Wix’s email marketing tool, SEO features, and social media integrations.
- Ecommerce – If you’re interested in a hybrid portfolio with ecommerce, Wix will let you transition your portfolio website into an online store. With Wix, ecommerce plans start from $29 per month (billed annually).
- Wix AI Tools – Wix’s AI tools can assist you as you create your portfolio. You can enhance your portfolio’s images, get advice on your website’s design, or ask the AI business assistant (Astro) for help.
What Should I Watch Out for With Wix?
But Wix isn’t without its flaws. While the editor is user-friendly and has a drag-and-drop interface, the sheer number of features can feel quite overwhelming at first. If this concerns you, I suggest opting for Squarespace instead, since it’s the easiest website builder to use, or choosing GoDaddy if you need to set up fast.
Another downside is that you can’t change your template, so you need to choose wisely when picking the right portfolio design. Double check your initial choice before you commit. Does it have the right look and come with the features you need?
⏰ 1-Minute Recommendation: Should You Use Wix?
- Small-medium sized businesses that want to show off their latest projects
- Businesses that need to stretch their portfolio website with additional functionality, like marketing and ecommerce
3. Hostinger: For Budget Portfolios
- 💰 Hostinger pricing: $2.99-$3.99 per month (billed annually)
- 🤖 AI porfolio website builder: Yes
- 💻 Read our full Hostinger review for further details
Hostinger
For budget portfolios
- Suitable for simple sites
- Affordable plans
- Easy to use
Paid Plans: $2.99 - $19.99 / month
Pros
-
Cheap starting prices
-
Easy to pick up
-
Great AI tools
Cons
-
No social media tools
-
Limited SEO
-
Heatmap tool removed
If you’re a student that needs to save money, or a new freelancer that doesn’t have a huge budget to begin with, I recommend Hostinger for your portfolio needs. For a 48-month term, you can purchase one of Hostinger’s website builder plans from $2.99 per month and get your first three months free.

Key Hostinger Portfolio Features
Hostinger isn’t as feature-rich as Wix or Squarespace, though it shines when it comes to its suite of AI tools. Here’s a list of Hostinger’s most notable features:
- AI SEO Assistant – If you’re not familiar with your SEO basics, this tool will help you assess your website’s discoverability on search engines like Google.
- AI Page Generator – When I wanted to add a new page to my portfolio website, I filled in a short AI prompt that Hostinger used to generate my new page in a few seconds.
- Kodee AI Assistant – From the dashboard, I could ask the assistant questions about my website. It’s useful if you ever get stuck and need a speedy response.

What’s It Like To Set Up With Hostinger?
Alongside affordable pricing, Hostinger’s website builder comes with everything you need to get started. When I searched for “portfolio” in its template library search bar, I came across 50 different options.
However, I strongly recommend using Hostinger’s AI website builder to get started. I only had to fill in two prompts to get my website’s design ready.

Out of the portfolio website builders featured, I was most impressed by Hostinger’s attention to detail. When I said that I wanted a photography portfolio, Hostinger created a design that was clearly catered to my needs. For example, it generated photos and website copy related to the photography industry.

Hostinger’s editor is user-friendly. The editor felt responsive and fast and it was easy to customize my portfolio by dragging and dropping different design elements on the page. Everything was clearly signposted too, so I quickly figured out how to tweak my design, create new pages, or add ecommerce functionality at the click of a button.
🤖 Hostinger product updates
In June 2025, Hostinger revealed its email marketing tool (Hostinger Reach), a welcome addition to its list of features. The tool AI generates email templates, tracks your metrics, and lets you apply the same style settings to every template for consistency. What Should I Watch Out for With Hostinger?
If your main goal is to promote your portfolio to a wider audience, don’t make Hostinger your number one choice. While it has a new email marketing tool (Hostinger Reach), you won’t find built-in social media integrations. Additionally, canonical tags, schema markup, and hreflang tags for international webpages are absent from its SEO features.
For better marketing functionality, both Wix and Squarespace have superior SEO features alongside multiple social media integrations spanning Instagram, Tiktok, and beyond.
⏰ 1-Minute Recommendation: Should You Use Hostinger?
- Students, freelancers, or small businesses that want to create a portfolio website on a budget
- Users who need a simple portfolio with one or two pages
- Users who want to use AI tools to quickly generate website content
4. GoDaddy: For Marketing Portfolios
- 💰 GoDaddy pricing: $9.99-$20.99 per month (billed annually)
- 🤖 AI porfolio website builder: Yes
- 💻 Read our full GoDaddy review for further information
GoDaddy
For marketing portfolios
- Get online quickly
- Affordable
- Ideal for basic portfolio
Free plan available
Paid Plans: $9.99 - $20.99 / month
Pros
-
Very beginner-friendly
-
AI-powered social tools
-
Helpful onboarding
Cons
-
AI designs can look generic
-
Limited customization
-
No mobile editor
In our 2025 research, GoDaddy dropped from third place to fourth place. However, while GoDaddy doesn’t have the most advanced features or website designs on the market, it’s still a suitable option for freelance marketers or agencies that want to display their most recent projects. It also has an impressive marketing suite complete with AI-powered social media tools.

Key GoDaddy Portfolio Features
When creating a portfolio with GoDaddy, here’s a shortlist of the features you may find most helpful:
- Integrated booking tools – Based on your website information, GoDaddy will come up with some service type ideas for you, although you can also add them manually.
- Marketing calendar – Throughout the month, you can access AI-generated content ideas if you’re not sure what to post on a certain day.
- Social post creator – When I used the marketing calendar, I could also use AI to generate social media imagery and content for me.

What’s It Like To Set Up With GoDaddy?
To build my GoDaddy website, I could choose one of the 20 “Personal and Blog” designs from GoDaddy’s template selection, or use its AI website builder to build a personalized portfolio template.
When I opted for its AI option, I had to fill in a short prompt detailing my business and what I offer. This information helped GoDaddy’s AI create a marketing portfolio that was catered to my needs.

While it didn’t take me long to create my portfolio design, I thought that the final result looked slightly outdated. During this year’s round of in-house testing, I noticed that the standard of GoDaddy’s designs have shown little improvement, while other website builders like Squarespace and Wix are now miles above it – with improved AI website builders and better template options in 2025.

On the flip side, I picked up GoDaddy’s editor quickly, because it wasn’t cluttered with too many options to choose from. When making my way around the editor, I could easily add new sections to my portfolio by tapping the blue “+” button, or tweak my design via the “Theme” tab. This straightforward interface makes it ideal for beginners who want to set up quickly.
However, don’t expect advanced design options like you would with Squarespace. Though GoDaddy’s editor was easy to navigate, the limited options felt restrictive when I wanted to adjust my design.
Author's Notes
When testing GoDaddy, I did find its onboarding experience helpful. I liked that it gave me a snappy, 30-second tutorial upon entering the editor, while it also provided me with a handy checklist to tick off as I set up my portfolio. These thoughtful features are valuable for beginners, since they’ll get you started without much fuss.

What Should I Watch Out for With GoDaddy?
I don’t recommend GoDaddy for advanced portfolio designs. Its AI-generated templates can often look generic and you won’t find a huge range of customization options from its editor.
For the best designs on the market, choose Squarespace instead. I was much more impressed by its AI-generated designs, while its customization tools gave me better creative control.
⏰ 1-Minute Recommendation: Should You Use GoDaddy?
- Freelancers or agencies that need to create a marketing portfolio to showcase their projects
- Users who want to quickly and easily make their portfolio
5. Pixpa: For Photography Portfolios
- 💰 Pixpa pricing: $8-$25 per month (billed annually)
- 🤖 AI porfolio website builder: No
Pixpa
For photography portfolios
- Great for photographers
- Very affordable plans
- Connect with socials
Free trial available
Paid Plans: $8 - $25 / month
Pros
-
Attractive templates
-
Lets you sell your images
-
Can enable watermarking
Cons
-
Restrictive website editor
-
No AI website builder
-
No email marketing
Unlike the other platforms on this list, Pixpa is a dedicated portfolio website builder that I recommend for photographers. You can choose from over 200 sleek and mobile-responsive templates accommodating high-resolution imagery and set up an online store if you’re interested in selling your work.

Key Pixpa Portfolio Features
Photography websites will benefit from Pixpa’s portfolio features, which include:
- Watermarking – You can protect your original photos by adding watermarks via your website settings. This tool can help you safeguard your work while still providing website visitors with a clear view of your recent projects.
- Progressive image loading – Pixpa uses progressive image loading, a loading technique that gradually loads an image on a page, to load content-heavy portfolios more swiftly.
- Sell images – On all Pixpa plans, you can build an online store and sell your images as prints or downloads.

What’s It Like To Set Up With Pixpa?
Unfortunately, Pixpa doesn’t have the most intuitive editor. Unlike portfolio builders like Wix or Squarespace, I couldn’t freely drag and drop content elements on the page. Instead, my website structure was fixed to the template I’d chosen, only allowing me to replace images, add sections, or customize colors, spacing, and fonts. If you want complete control over your portfolio’s design, Pixpa isn’t the website builder for you.

What Should I Watch Out for With Pixpa?
If you’re looking for features that go beyond photographic needs, Pixpa isn’t your best option. When testing Pixpa in 2025, I found that it had limited built-in features in comparison to its competitors. You won’t find an AI website builder, email marketing tool, or a booking integration (though you can connect with booking widgets like Square Appointments or Simplybook).
For a wider selection of features spanning design, selling, booking and marketing, I suggest Wix instead, which is the most feature-rich option on this list.
⏰ 1-Minute Recommendation: Should You Use Pixpa?
- Photographers who want to create a professional online portfolio
- Creatives who need to sell their images online in multiple formats
How We Tested the Best Portfolio Website Builders
To determine the best portfolio website builders, we’ve conducted over 300 hours of in-house website builder research. From these findings, we identified six key criteria that reflected what users (like you!) are looking for in a portfolio builder. They were also weighted based on their importance:
- Design features 35% – The quality of portfolio templates and customization options
- Website functionality 20% – The features you can add to your portfolio, like bookings or online stores
- User experience 20% – How easy the builder is to set up with
- Help and support 10% – How easy it is to find help through support lines or resources
- Pricing 10% – If the portfolio builder is good value for money
- Reputation 5% – The builder’s reputation among existing users online
Alongside this in-house research, I also tested each website builder myself by creating my own portfolios with them. I’ve featured my firsthand experiences throughout this article to help you make a more informed choice.
How Do I Choose the Right Portfolio Builder for My Needs?
While I’ve shown you the best portfolio website builders, you may still need a bit of direction on how to pick the right one for you. Your choice will differ depending on your needs, but I’ve broken it down into three essential goals that every portfolio should accomplish:
- Showcasing – Whether you’re showcasing images, videos, or project case studies, your portfolio should present your work in an engaging and professional manner. For this requirement, look for a platform with plenty of storage, fast content load times, and different gallery options.
- Storytelling – Can you tell a convincing story through your portfolio’s presentation? Whether you want to show your achievements or your creative evolution as an artist, seek out an easy-to-use editor and versatile design options. This will allow you to present yourself in the best way possible.
- Searchability – Can potential clients find your portfolio online? With integrated marketing tools, like social media sharing, email marketing, and SEO, your portfolio could be found by the right person at the right time, perhaps leading to opportunities you never saw coming.
Best Portfolio Website Builders: Final Thoughts
Out of the five portfolio website builders I’ve reviewed, I can confidently say that Squarespace is the best option.
With its high-quality templates, versatile customization options, and intuitive editor, you can create a striking portfolio that presents your body of work in the best light possible.
That said, the other portfolio builders I’ve covered might be a more suitable fit depending on your needs – so let’s recap:
- Wix is best for business portfolios. Its extensive features make it easy to add additional functionality to your website, be it bookings or an online store, based on your business needs.
- Hostinger is best if you need a professional portfolio on a budget. The introductory pricing starts from only $2.99 per month (billed annually).
- GoDaddy is ideal for marketing portfolios, since it comes with AI-powered marketing integrations like a marketing planner and social post creator.
- Pixpa’s sleek templates are ideal for photography portfolios. There’s also an integrated selling feature so browsers can purchase image prints and downloads directly from your portfolio.
